Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

#ban The people can make it a point to carry cloth or paper bags with them whenever they step out of their homes.Schools can play an important role in this regard.If a young child is taught about the harmful effect of polythene bag,these young children will only make it a point that they and their family members abide by this imposition.

It is difficult to impose ban on plastic bags with immediate effect.Government needs to phase out plastic gradually.1)Initially focus on big shopping complex impose a ban on them for using plastic bags for final packing instead use paper bags.2)A lot of plastic is also generated from marriage parties and other events.The plastic cups,bowls should be strictly banned by fixing responsibility on owner of banquet, seminar halls and other such places.Also spread awareness about biodegradable plastics

1. Conduct a detailed survey on plastic carry Bags manufacturing units.Provide all types of assistance to them to convert their units to manufacture alternative items like paper bags, so that unit owners/workers are not put to loss. 2.Make sure that corporate manufactures are not packing their items including cigarettes with such plastic material.3.Stop issuing licenses to the such new units Stopping at the end user level may not yield expected results.Though the process may take time

इससे बेरोजगार युवाओं को भी कार्य मिलेगा तथा साथ ही सरकार को भी अतिरिक्त राजस्व प्राप्त होगा ? सबसे बड़ा फायदा यह होगा कि घटिया किस्म के प्लास्टिक बेग बाजार में नहीं आ पाएंगे ? साथ ही प्रत्येक विक्रेता को इस हेतु प्रेरित किया जाये एवं पालन न करने वाले से जुर्माना वसूल कर दण्डित किया जाये ?

श्रीमान् प्रधान सेवक ! प्लास्टिक थैलियों पर प्रतिबंध लगभग सभी राज्यों में है लेकिन प्रायः ये देखा गया है कि बावजूद सख्ती के इस पर अमल नहीं होता ? कुछ दिन सख्ती दिखाकर स्थानीय प्रशासन फिर आँखें मूँदकर सो जाता है ? मुझे समझ नहीं आता कि इसकी निर्माण इकाइयों को ही सील क्यों नहीं किया जाता ? जिससे न तो बनेगी और न ही बाजार में आएगी ? क्या ऐसा नहीं हो सकता देश की सरकार ही खुद अच्छी क्वालिटी के बेग की निर्माण इकाइयां सभी राज्यों में झोन बनाकर लगाये ? वहीं से उनका खुदरा बाजार में वितरण हो ?

We should promote grocery shops keeping stock in gunny bags & to give in paper pockets & in cloth bags (new, old & reusable) Should ban supermarkets Or impose additional tax if they sell in plastic bags / pouches Every individual to carry with them the required cloth / gunny / jute bags to purchase retail stock from groceries. Reuse/Recycle policy to be adopted by all individuals. Educate, spread awareness through Media, schools for encouraging the old systems & practices.

1.Ban the use of plastics bags by shopkeepers and promote paper bags. 2. Promote consumers to carry their own bags. 3. Increase the return value of plastics so high that people think before throwing them.The shoppers should accept their branded plastics if returned to them for 25-50% of value. 4. Ban the 50 paise -10 rupee products in small plastic packs. The small packs litter the roads and railway tracks. It also causes addiction in poor people as eventually consumption is very high.
