Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Plastic ban as well as recyling should be focused. Some of the iportant steps that can be taken are as under. 1. Plastic can be used in construction of roads. 2. Bags from waste clothes especially saree could be made. 3. Plastic bottles from the railway and bus station should be picked and shredded into small pieces by plastic cuuting machine and then reused. 4. Frozen food should be avoided as it contains plastic bags which are harmful to health and nature

Instead of penalizing the plastic bag users, encourage the non-plastic bag users. One of the way is to give discounts to the shopper who brings their own bag and not accepting plastic bags from the shops. Say a discount of 2-3 Rs per purchase would encourage. Penalizing approach is counter productive and it's not incisive approach.

Plastic bags, cups and other use-and-throw items have many innovative alternatives. Recycled paper is one of them. Following a new innovation, we can make recycled paper cups with embedded seeds in them. After their use, these cups just need to be put in soil and watered. The embedded seeds can then grow into saplings. This will serve three purposes. Alternative to plastic, waste disposal management and creating green spaces in our vicinity. Suggest any improvements or better solutions for #ban.

1. A heavy amount should be charged on the plastic bags. Also as far as other items of plastic are concerned, the price should be made high enough for the consumers to buy it. 2. Leaf made plates, bowls should be promoted so that people tend to use them more. 3. Also, for the waste that the usage of plastic has already made, Chandigarh can follow the example of Jamshedpur wherein road has been made from plastic.

2 option 1. Ban plastic bags like done in Rajastan 2. Impose tax which will make cost of plastic bag Rs100 per bag and can be refunded only when people give back. So every plastic used cost more and should returned back so that it cannot be misused and thrown all around. Plastic bag is one of the biggest contributor for filth all around, in Chennai post floods, every other place has been filled with plastic bag. Time for a paradigm change

1. I think the shopkeepers should ask people to give extra ₹50-₹100 for asking PLASTIC BAGS. 2. People should be ask to use JUTE BAGS at the time of shopping. For that there should be some advisement on TV,Cinemas, road, etc at public places. 3. Shopkeepers should be ordered to use JUTE BAGS in place of PLASTIC BAGS. If not following the order then a fine of ₹5000+ should to imposed so that they can follow the order..
