Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Instead of plastic bags giv should provide tetra pack type bags like of frooti comes which is recyclable as well and can stay long too ... Another thing is that when ever public go to bring some liquid like milk should take the tetra pack type bag with them to bring the required... I think this can help just think hard....

Please start media campaign on TV, Radio, Newspapers in all languages to educate people about harmful effects of burning garbage specially mixed with plastic or polythene bags. This is causing tremendous pollution and choking our lungs, causing breathing problems, asthma and cancer like diseases. Many people are not aware of the harmful effects of burning garbage specially which is mixed with plastic waste.

BAN is not solution or imposing of any additional cost will also not work. I guess it would be better if local Municipal open a collection center for Plastic Bag/Bottels. In fact in Europe all Plastic Bottels/Aluminian CAN re-collection point where you can put at re-cycle and get back the Amount or Money what is spend to buy the product contain plastic. We can request the product producer to add the Deposit Money for each Plastic ITEM which can be refund back to consumer once they submit.

Already so many alternates of plastic allied items are avail in market but they cost more than plastic items and some people even don't have awareness of alternatives. My suggestion is to encourage a small scale industries that who propose to manufacture alternatives at less cost than plastic items which avail in market also conduct a program of awareness about alternatives benefits against plastic items which will be acting as promotion for this new initiatives which comes under Make in India.
