Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Just like plastic bags are available at every store, emphasis should be layed on making cloth or paper bags such useful and easy to manage. Production of plastics should be checked as much as possible. Instead the usage and circulation of paper/cloth bags should be encouraged. This would certainly give a lift to usage of biodegradable items and also boost their respective industries.

Manufacturing of platic bags should be stopped forthwith. Bags made of Jute or cotton etc can be used . Platic cups plates etc are also to be baned. Ppaer cups ,plates can be encouraged.or earthern small pots or plates can be used which can be thrown after one time use.Any thing harmful to the health should be banned.

1. Mobile App to send picture of violations and public exposure to violators 2. Reason for plastic bags usage is cost, availability & size - Increase the cost of per plastic bag to Rs 5.00 and Jute Bag to Rs 0.50 - Make available at every circle, market, shop, vegetable market, ... - Make thinnest bag probably 1-2 time usage and reusable bags 3. Sell at each red light for token cost e.g 10 bags for Rs 1 or so. Any questions or clarifications are welcome.

Plastic, on of the worst enemy of environment, it should have got banned decades ago, but it's not too late though, all offices should encourage their employees to use tea/coffee mugs instead of using plastic/papers cups, also Gov. should encourage jute industry to manufacture affordable jute bags so that it can replace plastic bags, fine should be imposed on using of plastic bags. Also we all need to support Gov. because we can only bring change through collective effort.
