Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Its important that Swachh Bharat funds should be utilised to collect plastic waste.  Low income workable force/unemployed youth/ MnReGa workforce should be mobilised for collection of such garbage from where they see it and deposit it at collection centres and reimbursement in the form of per kilo payment for such collection should be instituted. #NationalGreenTribunal; the only way t successfully implement plastic bags etc is by stop them from manufacturing. the industries manufacturing such materials should be immediately closed. when no plastic bags etc will be available in the market how can anyone use them. To ban anything is easy but to ensure the thing shall not be used, one shall stop it from manufacturing. the source should be treated for successful treatment of problem.

1)Academic institutions can play a very vital role in handling this issues. The students must take an oath every day not to use plastic bags etc. 2) An information bulletin & a questionnaire should be given be children and their parents on the use of plastic bags indicating bad effect on the use these plastic items. 3) Students/parents should avoid the use of plastic items in birthday parties etc. 4) All plastic bags, cup plates must be banned in school/college and offices.

#Ban, #PlasticCarryBags, #PlasticCups, #PlasticPlates, Jai Hind. Fines and penalties today in our country do not discourage violations, but on the contrary boost corruption. Please do not question my patriotism or respect for nation. Am just calling as spade, a spade. Two important steps are: 1. Improving awareness so that the citizens voluntarily stop using plastics and opt for bio-degradable alternatives. 2. Ensuring easy and economical availability of bio-degradable alternatives.

1.levying hefty taxes for import of plastics into the state and shutting down industries producing plastic articles which will curb most of the plastic generation in the city. 2.providing incentives to companies and small businesses to produce alternatives to plastic goods which can reduce dependency on plastics 3.generating a sense of responsibility by educating and empathizing the masses on ill effect of plastics on nature can be the only effective tool to keep this ban relevant.

1) Shop keepers must provide very low priced bio-degradable/clothes bags to customers on chargeable basis instead of providing free polythene bags. This will inculcate the customers, the habit of keeping shopping bags. 2) Penalty on using polythene bags for both shopkeepers and customers. One penalty should setup the example for others. Penalty with wide publicity. 3) Mass scale awareness programmes on bad effects of using polythene bags on health and environment.
