Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Direct banning of Plastic will not help solve the issue. Even though plastics are ban for environment we should not forget the flexibility and ease of usage that comes with it. It is not practical to use Paper Bags or cloth bags. Instead we should promote use of Biodegradable Plastic bags. It has both, advantages in terms of strength and ease of usage as like a normal plastic bag and at the same time is not harmful to environment. We need to focus on moving to biodegradable ones instead a ban.

NGT decision is very good But local bodies taking action against small retailers and shopkeepers. I don't want to say this is wrong but this is also true that it's not best way or action. If the action is taking against manufacturer of plastic carry bags, the aim of NGT fulfill very easily and completely. Thanks

Good initiative. 1.Biodegradable carry bags n disposals shuld be encouraged instead. 2. After banning the imports of plastics govt shud start dumping same ASAP.Also start collecting it door to door in some prescribed cost so that ppl also support it. 3. Encouraging small firms to produce eco friendly bags providing them special incentives.

GOVT. SHOULD BANNED THE POLYTHENE IS NOT ONLY ONE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM . GOVT. SHOULD HIGHLY IMPLEMENT AN LAW FOR SEGREGATION OF RECYCLABLE ,ORGANIC , REUSABLE GARBAGE INTO DIFFERENT DUSTBINS. USING 3 R - REUSE , RECYCLE, & REDUCE IT SHOULD BE IMPLEMENT IN 5& 3 STAR HOTELS THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE A GAS PLANT BY WHICH THEY CAN PRODUCE NATURAL GAS BY DECOMPOSING THE REMAINING ORGANIC MATERIALS LIKE CUTTING . OF VEGETABLES PEELS ETC. IT WILL ECONOMICAL BENEFIT FOR PEOPLE. USING OF JUTE BAGS
