Department of Telecommunications (DoT) through their letter dated 27th February 2019 has informed that Indian Railways has proposed to install an Ultra-high-speed LTE based communication corridor along their network for Train-Ground and Train-Train communication. In this connection Indian Railways has requested DoT to reserve 15 MHz of spectrum in 700 MHz band for the purpose and to begin with 10 MHz to be allocated free of cost as the proposal is devoid of any commercial gain, but only for enhancing security and passenger amenities. Through the said letter, DoT has also requested TRAI to provide recommendations on administrative allotment of spectrum to Indian Railways and the quantum, price, appropriate frequency band (including 450-470 MHz band) and any other related issue.

A Consultation Paper on “Allotment of Spectrum to Indian Railways for Public Safety and Security Services” has been released to discuss the issues involved. Written comments on the issues raised in the Consultation Paper are invited from the stakeholders by 22nd July 2019 and counter-comments by 5th August 2019.

This is great for pessangers,they can now continued connection of internet and phone calls in remote areas. for example: while we were traveling through tunnel in mountain we get lost our connection, this is the best remedy for the above problem. it's cost efficient too, great idea 👍

First of all, I wish all the very best for this move. We have to ensure that corruption is eradicated so that no facility which we have to enjoy is compromised. strict and effective measures to be adapted for implementing the rules. Anyone found guilty must be punished by which it will teach a clear lesson to the rest. Round the clock surveillance to be ensured in all stations and even in trains Small changes in the cost can be made provided people get the best service

It's a good initiative and it will help people who are travelling to be connected in case the mobile networks do not work. Moreover In this era of 4g there should be more of 4g spectrum allocation only we heading towards 5g so nothing less than 4g services should be available. specially in remote areas where network finds it difficult this will boost the network connectivity. The network can be kept secured with proper monitoring. BSNL which was a Govt part earlier needs to get a boost.

No I do not agree to allocate spectrum to Railways. It would be another liability as BSNL/MTNL in a market where we have scare spectrum liability. it would be better we allocate available equal spectrum to all private and PSU and make a policy in such manner that they us it for emergency purposes for both railway and NHAI and even include ambitious waterway project. This would connectivity during travelling on Rail, highway and waterways.

भारतीय रेलवे के विकास के लिए ये बहुत ही अच्छा कदम उठाया जा रहा है इस प्रयास से रेलवे ट्रैफ़िक से निजात मिल सकता है रोजगार के अवसर मिल सकते है।
