Unani medicine, also known as Greco-Arabic medicine, is a traditional system of healing rooted in ancient Greek and Islamic teachings. It emphasizes the balance of bodily humors—blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile—for maintaining health. Developed by renowned physicians like Hippocrates, Galen, and later advanced by Islamic scholars like Avicenna, Unani medicine incorporates natural remedies, herbal treatments, dietary practices, and physical therapies. It is widely practiced in South Asia, particularly in India, where it is recognized as a complementary healthcare system. Unani focuses on holistic well-being, aiming to treat not just the symptoms but the underlying causes of illness while promoting a balanced lifestyle.
