Instead, wherever feasible, such assets—particularly land—could be permanently converted into public water bodies such as lakes, ponds, or rainwater harvesting reservoirs. Public Benefits Strong deterrence against corruption – Visible conversion of illegal property into public resources sends a strong message. Environmental improvement – India faces increasing water scarcity and groundwater depletion. Creating water bodies helps recharge groundwater and manage floods. Public interest use of confiscated assets – Instead of remaining unused or being re-sold, the land would serve a long-term ecological and social purpose. Urban water security – Cities frequently experience water shortage can be solved.
