The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

1.Source Control: A “De-packaging Buffer” zone is established before the sanctum where devotees transfer offerings like milk and honey into reusable steel bowls, preventing plastic entry. “Shuddha-Patra” exchange counters provide reusable containers and eco-friendly Pujan kits, reducing reliance on plastic and chemical-based items. 2.The Collection System: Create a gamified system where every 10–20 milk packets or plastic items collected earns the devotee a "Green Coin" (or a digital stamp). These coins can be exchanged at the exit for a small blessed item, a picture of Mahadev, or Prasad. 3.Bhakti-to-Bijli: Install on-site bio-gas digesters to convert organic offerings (flowers, milk, honey) into energy for the Mela’s lights, showing that devotion can light up the temple. 4.Economic Integration: Partner with local industry to divert collected plastic for sustainable road construction, making the Mela self-sustaining.

Zero Waste Mela Plan: Digital Guide: Install QR Codes at entry gates to replace paper maps/flyers (Zero Paper Waste). Eco-Rewards: Offer digital points or coupons for depositing plastic bottles to encourage recycling via youth. Organic Waste: Convert floral waste (nirmalya) into organic fertilizer on-site. Eco-Alternatives: Strictly use leaf plates (Pattal) and clay cups (Kulhad) in all bhandaras. Goal: Use tech to keep the temple clean. Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi!
