The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Solar-powered lighting systems can be installed across the mela area to reduce electricity consumption and promote renewable energy. Decorative solar lamps and charging stations can create an eco-friendly atmosphere while lowering energy costs and pollution during the event.

A “Plant a Tree for Mahadev” initiative can encourage pilgrims to plant saplings after visiting the mela. Saplings can be distributed at exit points with environmental messages. Schools and local communities can participate in tree plantation drives linked with the Mahashivratri celebration. This creates a long-term environmental impact beyond the festival.

Respected PM Modi ji Any festivals there is a huge waste, in the form of eatables, and connected used items, like leftover, plant leafs used as plates, thermocol dish etc. Other waste products are left over drinking water in glass. While carrying food plates, people hit each other in rush and Food may fall down. To avoid such waste buffy lunch is arrenged. in this case it's necessery to arrenge, different items at different places, so that quick distribution of individual items are served in one place and rush is avoided. Like puri, chapati, Parathas, roti etc is distributed at one place along with dish and one vegetable which most people likes. After around another place may be 15 feet away other vegetables, crackers, and pickle is placed. In another place, rice and sambar/ dal may be placed. in another place sweet dish may be placed. left over food can be given next day, to any one present. Drinking water can be served at one place by one or two peoples. Hand wash at another place
