The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Use leaf plates, clay cups, and paper bags instead of plastic. Set up separate dustbins for wet waste, dry waste, and पूजा materials. Convert flower waste and organic offerings into compost manure. Encourage devotees to carry steel water bottles and reusable bags. Organize a volunteer awareness team to guide visitors about cleanliness and recycling. Install a “No Plastic Zone” banner around the temple area. Use leftover food from bhandara for animal feeding or composting instead of dumping. Conduct a small cleanliness drive after Mahashivratri celebrations with local youth and students. Benefits: Reduces plastic pollution around the temple. Keeps the holy place clean and spiritual. Promotes environmental awareness among devotees. Creates a model for future eco-friendly festivals in India.regards Bishwajit

A temple is the place where the people feel the sense of God. For that the surrounding areas should maintain hygiene. Plastic things should not be allowed to the temple, and the vehicles which causes pollution by producing smoke into nature shouldn't allowed into the temple area. Should provide the dustbins to throw the waste. Mainly should make the people aware about all these, because people attention towards the hygieness can make all these things possible. Should use eco-friendly things which biodegradable and which doesn't causes pollution. Should plant the plants for to have healthy environment. Shouldn't allow the plastic things into the temple they may make the temple nature unhygienic. Should encourage this generation to follow our culture and also to understand the theme of our Indian culture. Should encourage people to avoid plastic things or any other non biodegradable things. Should encourage the people to keep the temple clean and holy by not polluting the temple.

Eco-Friendly Packaging: Ban all plastic bags for Prasad. use stitched leaf plates (pattals), donas, or small cloth/paper bags. Jab desh bhar se aaye lakhon bhakt in donas me prasad lenge, toh uski kamai direct hamari local rural women ke hath me jayegi. Isse unhe ek naya rozgar milega aur unka aatmavishwas badhega. Jab hamari local mataen-behne is pavan utsav se earn karengi, toh unke gharo me bhi khushali aayegi. Request hai ki administration is zero-waste drive ko ek 'Jan Andolan' banaye aur isme hamari local women ko zaroor shamil kre "Utsav ke baad, in bache hue leaf donas ko feka nahi jayega Inhe collect karke ek jagah organic compost (khaat) me badla jaye. Aur wahi khaat (manure) unhi local women ko free me di jaye taaki vo apne khet ya ghar me sabziyan uga sakein. Yeh hoga true Zero Waste complete loop! "Mandir aur mela परिसर ki decoration me kisi bhi tarah ke plastic ribbons, thermocol cutting, ya artificial plastic ke phoolon (fake flowers) ka use
