The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Shri Parshurameshwar Mahadev Mahashivratri can become the world’s first “AI-Driven Spiritual Green Mela.” Every visitor can receive a QR-based Green Pass guiding them to parking, darshan queues, water stations and waste points in real time. AI-enabled smart bins and drones can monitor cleanliness and crowd flow, while plastic-return machines reward devotees with digital Green Points. Temple waste, flowers and food leftovers can be converted into compost and bio-energy, creating a self-sustaining Zero Waste model for future religious events across India.

Temple Mahashivratri festival can be made zero waste by implementing strict plastic ban, providing segregated waste bins, promoting biodegradable puja materials, and creating composting units for floral waste. Awareness programs for devotees and volunteers can ensure cleanliness and sustainability.
