The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

A zero waste necessarily implies a zero material resource input. Material resource inputs are of Pooja, Nivedhyam, Miscellaneous categories. So, firstly limit these to essentials. These materials can be submitted in reusable containers. So, secondly ban the use of containers not reusable by devotees themselves.Thirdly, implement digital Archanas & Poojas, so that materials are avoided. The digital money received should be used for removal of all existing wastes in the temple premises and the whole temple cleaned and spruced up for the Mega Festival.

An AI-powered “Smart Green Mela System” can be introduced to make the Mahashivratri Mela cleaner, safer and better managed. AI-enabled CCTV cameras and sensors can monitor crowd density, overflowing dustbins and cleanliness in real time. A mobile app with QR codes can guide visitors about parking, temple queues, drinking water points and waste disposal locations. Smart bins can send alerts to sanitation teams when full, ensuring timely cleaning. AI-based public announcement systems can automatically provide crowd and emergency updates in multiple languages. Visitors who participate in cleanliness activities or use reusable items can earn digital “Green Points” through QR scanning, which can be redeemed for refreshments or souvenirs. This model can help Baghpat become a national example of technology-driven sustainable religious tourism.

“Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi” – Zero Waste Mahotsav Model To transform Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav, I propose a practical 5-point model. First, install smart waste segregation stations with separate bins for wet, dry, and religious waste every 50 meters, supported by composting units for flowers and organic offerings. Second, enforce a plastic-free mela by replacing single-use plastics with biodegradable alternatives like leaf plates, clay cups, and cloth bags. Third, create a youth-led “Harit Sevak” volunteer force involving students and local groups to guide pilgrims and spread awareness. Fourth, introduce a QR-based digital eco-system for navigation, waste reporting, and rewarding eco-friendly behavior through Green Points. Fifth, run awareness campaigns through announcements, street plays, and LED displays connecting spirituality with cleanliness. This model supports Mission LiFE and can make Baghpat a national model for tourism

Color-Coded Automated Hubs: Install heavy-duty, smart waste bins at 100-meter intervals along major approach routes and temple exit points.Gamified Disposal Nudges: Use sensor-based bins that trigger a "Thank You" chime or issue a digital green coupon code via SMS when dry waste is deposited.Smart Monitoring: Deploy a live dashboard for the local municipal control room to track bin capacity levels using IoT weight sensors, preventing overflow.
