The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Some suggestions 1. Making plastic cover free zones, avoiding plastic cutlery's, plastic cups etc. water bottle also can be avoided with bamboo water bottles, eversilver water bottles etc,. paper bags usage, organic cutlerys, cups (many startups producing organic things). if water bottles costly, can encourage people to bring own waterbottles, cutlery's , plates etc for travel like things bringing. That way we can reduce plastic wastes massively.

Eco-Friendly Serving: Implement a complete ban on single-use plastics and styrofoam. Encourage vendors and 'Bhandaras' to use biodegradable leaf plates (Patthals), clay cups (Kulhads), and bamboo cutlery. Source Segregation: Deploy color-coded bins throughout the premises for dry and wet waste. Use clear signage in local languages to guide pilgrims on proper disposal. Flower Waste Management: Establish a collection system for used flowers and 'Belpatra'. These can be processed into organic incense sticks or compost rather than being discarded into water bodies or landfills. Water Refill Stations: Set up high-capacity filtered water stations to discourage the purchase of bottled water. Promote a "Carry Your Own Bottle" campaign among devotees. Volunteer Engagement: Form a 'Green Task Force' of local students and youth to monitor cleanliness and educate pilgrims about the importance of keeping the holy site pristine.
