The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela can become a national model of Zero Waste Mahotsav through community participation, eco-friendly practices and smart technology. The mela area should be divided into “Green Zones” with separate bins for wet waste, dry waste and पूजा सामग्री. Flower waste and organic waste can be converted into compost through temporary compost pits, while plastic collection centres can ensure proper recycling. Single-use plastic should be completely banned and replaced with biodegradable leaf plates, मिट्टी के कुल्हड़, cloth bags and steel water refill stations. Shops and food stalls following zero-waste rules may receive “Green Vendor” certificates to encourage participation. Youth volunteers, NCC, NSS students and local organisations can form “Harit Shiv Sevak” teams to guide devotees about cleanliness and waste segregation. QR codes placed across the mela can provide directions to toilets, drinking water points, parking and waste disposal location

Proposal: "Digital Prasad & Green Pilgrimage" Model 1. Title of the Idea: "Punya-Path: A Tech-Enabled Circular Ecosystem" 2. Core Concept: Transforming waste into "Blessings" by using technology to close the loop. The focus is on eliminating plastic and flowers from the waste stream through a rewarding digital system. 3. Key Practical Solutions: The "QR-Blessing" System (Waste Management): Instead of physical plastic packaging for offerings, introduce QR-coded biodegradable leaf-bowls (Dona/Pattal). Pilgrims scan the code at disposal bins to earn "Punya Points" on a mobile site, which can be redeemed for digital souvenirs or discounted local transport (promoting sustainable tourism). Nirmalaya-to-Wealth (Bio-Waste): Install small-scale, transparent Biogas or Composting units on-site. Convert floral offerings (Nirmalaya) into organic incense sticks or manure right in front of visitors. This serves as a "Live Demo" of behavioral change.
