More and more Indian airports should have international flights to direct location. This will increase the number of tourists. Many of friends in the UK don't want to revisit India because they have no option but to go thru a metro city and then take connecting flights (which often require stopovers of mpre than three hours). This is precisely why Emirates and other middle east airline do so much better than Indian ones.

I just got back to India from the UK. The last two trips I was given the immigration form ON the flights (Emirates). This time I was given one at the immigration which we had to fill in standing up which is not easy. My passport was read electornically and my photo was also taken. So what is the need for the form??? Is this just another case of mindless bureaucratic process that has no real purpose? Please, please please get all IAS office to review the reasons for such forms.

Income tax refunds below Rs 50,000 are directly credited to the Tax Payer's bank account but if the refunds are above Rs 50,000, a refund cheque is issued. The cheque then has to be signed by the NRI before it can be deposited in the account in India. This may work fine for residents but it is unnecessary inconvenience to NRIs as the cheque has to be couriered back and forth. Direct bank credit of refunds, irrespective of amounts, will help.

Issue: Why the VISA norms for INDIAN PASSPORT holders is not same as the one offered by India to those countries. Solution: Government of India should analyse the VISA norms for INDIA viz a viz different countries and try to get same terms and conditions from those countries for INDIAN PASSPORT HOLDERS

My personal experience of applying for Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) takes 4-6 minimum from start to finish with $462 of charges per one application which is outrageous, in comparison with service provided by out sourcing agent and as well Indian Consulate. I have never made attempt to go to Indian Consulate by myself to New York because I have heard that Indian consulate employee's are unresponsive, rude to customer quires. Filling Process should be easy and fast with minimum paper work.

Problem: Passport renewal for NRIs takes unusually long (> 3 months) while living in some countries ex. Netherlands. The reason is, application goes for a NOC to original passport issuing authority in India which takes its own time. Solution: This additional step of NOC from India can be omitted. For an NRI living legally in a country like Netherlands with a social security number even the smallest of the details can be tracked. This step is an overkill.

I am sure the restriction around NRE a/c's does not serve the purpose for which it was set up. If you are invested in India you cannot re-deposit the money in the a/c after a asset sale even for transaction purpose. One needs to provide a lot of unnecessary proof of the source of funds. Most of the NRI's who hold a NRE a/c have opened it to invest in India and there is less likely hood of them repatriating their money outside. If this red tape is removed it can stir re-investment in start ups.

NRI's who have contributed directly or indirectly by serving in the middle eastern regions for more than 25 years should be encouraged to return with their savings and should get income tax waiver for at least ten years from their arrival date as long as they file their returns truthfully. Middle eastern based NRI's really have no chance of staying back after their retirement age. Their contribution cannot be ignored especially after working in extremely hostile conditions prevalent there.
