1. Go upstream to the source of the pollution. Decentralise the waste water clenaing. 2. large offsite ETP have not solved the problem. They only cost the country a lot of money and dont provide a solution. 3. There are numerous revolutionary technologies that can be used all together and in different sequences appropriate to the levels of requirement. But being not very capital intensive authorites have not been interested in implementing them .The PM call to action should see a change.

Riverfront development will go a long way in Cleaning of Ganga and any River in general. Of course this has to go hand in hand with tightening the noose around no dumping of Industrial effluent and no dumping of sewage. In my opinion the Riverfront Development must go beyond what had been done along Sabarmati in Gujara. The Riverbanks should be alloted to be developmed commercially and socially (with boundaries and limitation). This way Private builders will take responsibility to keep it clean.

Again in continuity: 6. Also by adopting stringent policies for Industrial effluent disposal. 7. Imposing hefty fine to both Polluters and Ignorant Govt. bodies if any (like Pollution Control Board) and ULBs. 8. By Encouraging Govt. authority by awarding them for any work in favor of Clean Ganga and also to have public participation on board. 9. Encouraging Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for Infrastructural development and encouraging DBOT and other schemes..........

In Continuation: 3. We all know that river have a great self cleansing and self sustainable nature. They purifies itself from less than 0 DO to 7+ DO. It can be achieved by natural revamping process. 4. New and latest technologies like MBBR, SBR, CETP, and by encouraging Zero Liquid Discharge by providing some benefits to the Construction Group, the river can be protected from being polluted 5. Also, it is utmost to inspect the system/ infrastructure on regular basis.

Best Practices Examples: 1. Singapore: The condition of Singapore was worst during their mid 60's but with development and with stringent policies they have achieved best out of nothing. Few decades back, they were importing potable water from other countries and now they are the one of the best technology provider 2. River Thames, London: It was once the worst source of water, but with technological development and stringent policies, they have one of the non-polluted river

Many industries have shutdown across the banks of Ganges,i think these industries can be converted to water purifying centers as these industries are useless. These industries are very close to the river so it's easy for testing or purifying the water. And the unemployed workers can be given these tasks with the bit help of the public.
