Vrikshit Foundation’s “Butt Rush” campaign collected over 3.8 lakh cigarette butts in just 24 hours, showcasing the power of collective youth action. This initiative, along with their 9 million kg of waste collection and cleanup drives, makes them deserving of a feature on Mann Ki Baat. India should know their story!

Vrikshit Foundation, a youth-led movement with a team of 12,000 volunteers across 35 cities, has made an enormous impact on India’s environment. Their efforts, including cleaning 510+ locations, planting over 40,000 trees, and converting dumping yards into libraries, show their dedication to nation-building. This phenomenal work deserves to be showcased on Mann Ki Baat for the nation to know.

The rise of e-commerce has significantly impacted small local vendors across the country. Customers are increasingly shifting to online platforms due to heavy discounts and convenience, leaving physical shopkeepers struggling to compete. This shift is threatening the livelihoods of millions of small business owners who lack the resources to match the aggressive pricing strategies of online giants. To address this, I suggest it is essential to implement fair-trade policies that regulate predatory pricing and provide local vendors with access to technology, training, and financial support. Encouraging a hybrid model where local shops collaborate with e-commerce platforms can also help them adapt and sustain their businesses. Balancing online growth with the survival of traditional markets is crucial for equitable economic development.

As a professional and Company Secretary, I firmly believe that inviting big corporates and IT companies to set up operations in smaller towns can be transformative. By offering targeted subsidies and incentives, the government can encourage businesses to expand beyond metropolitan hubs, creating employment opportunities locally. This initiative holds particular importance for states like Uttar Pradesh, where talented youth often migrate to cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, or Noida, leaving their aging parents behind. Providing employment opportunities in smaller towns would enable people to stay with their families, fostering social harmony and mental well-being. Additionally, this decentralization of industries can alleviate resource strain in metros. Overpopulation in urban hubs leads to shortages and wastage, as seen in Bengaluru’s water crisis earlier this year. Diversifying economic activity can ensure better resource utilization across regions.

5 suggestions 1) No income tax or filing income tax for senior citizens after 65 years. 2) Uniform GST if 7% for all products and services. East to implement and monitor. 3) All primary and secondary schools fir all Indians shpuld be free... Free means free. Govt to subsidize private schools from Education ministry. 4) Freeze new automobiles for 5 months. Thereafter restrict numbers. Augment public transport instead. 5) Corruption at all levels is too high now. Stop that with bold steps.

In order to deal with garbage everywhere, we need Clean India 2.0 which will be to handle from local level. Apartments can take the first step in this. They already segregate their veg waste, nonveg waste, biohazard (napkins, diapers) and dry waste. The veg waste can be put directly in a container without any plastic bags, reducing plastic waste. Now the apartment can adopt cows or goats which can consume the veg waste. Goats have an additional advantage of being natural lawn mowers. Their dung can be used as fertilizers. The milk from them can be sold either directly to the apartment dwellers or to cooperative societies. A caretaker to them can take care of their well being and look after gardens in the apartments.
