1. Each school should have a separate compound which should have adequate number of girl toilets. The map of a school should not be passed until this is fulfilled. 2. For existing schools, their certification should be cancelled if they do not have these facilities 3. Building such toilets should be tied to MNREGA in rural areas. 4. Building such toilets should be executed by private players in urban areas.

in each girl toilet keep one hygiene box stuffed with sanitary napkins. Make it mandatory & the principal accountable.Call for a design competition & reward economical & effective toilet designs for rural schools. Execute them with workers paid through MNREGA.

Sustainable toilets- look into microbial activity toilets that break down fecal matter to produce rich manure. Ultra low flush systems for low water consumption. In remote areas, with no piped water chemical toilets are a good solution. One study shows that separating the urine from the solid waste helps dispose off the matter in a more efficient way with less water. Today, read an article in the Economist where Univ of Bristol is generating electricity from urinals. Provide sani pads/ disposal

A separate compound should be constructed for girls washroom. Sanitation should be the basic requirement. There should be proper disposal system. Every school/college that is constructed should consider this as a priority. Sanitary napkins should be provided whether for some cost or free of it. Reasonable amount is tolerable! Besides there should be properly installed taps and cisterns !

You know, the issue in Indian Schools is that the TEACHERS stay DISCONNECTED from the STUDENTS. Teachers must realise, that they are there to do a wholesome job. Not just teach their subject. If the Teachers start walking out of the Staff Room and share Lunch with the Students, it will be a much better situation in the schools. Respect doesn't come by way of terror. Teachers must understand this. I suggest, the Female Teachers must share the Toilets with the Girl Students.

As in Nigeria, we have separate toilets for girls. They are shared by the STAFF and STUDENTS. Each toilet has a brush etc. that can be used to clean the toilet. Each Student is made to witness a DEMONSTRATION / Movie on the process and results of cleaning the toilets. There is a Monitor cum Cleaner who checks the toilets frequently everyday. If any mess is found, it is cleaned and notified to ALL Students in the Assembly, next morning. A count board is maintained to display "Clean Days so far"

The best policy is to CREATE the BEST Citizens. Instead of passing the task of cleaning the toilets to someone else, primarily, TEACH the Girls to clean the toilets after each use. They do it in their homes too. They can do it in Schools also. A secondary agency to monitor and sanitize the toilets can also be deployed for better results. But the responsibility matrix must contain the USER Girl.

for New Schools (Nursery,Primary & Upper Levels)It should be made mandatory policy to have separate proper toilets for boys & girls Fly ash Bricks can be used for construction purpose as it is cheap as well as hardy & long lasting.
