Section 161 of Railway act indicates “If any person driving or leading a vehicle is negligent in crossing an unmanned level crossing, he shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to one year.”

Section 131 of the Motor Vehicle Act indicates that “Every driver of a motor vehicle at the approach of any unguarded railway level crossing shall cause the vehicle to stop and the driver of the vehicle shall cause the conductor or cleaner or attendant or any other person in the vehicle to walk up to the level crossing and ensure that no train or trolley is approaching from either side and then pilot the motor vehicle across such level crossing, and where no conductor or cleaner or attendant or any other person is available in the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle shall get down from the vehicle himself to ensure that no train or trolley is approaching from either side before the railway track is crossed”

However due to non-following of relevant rules by the road users, many accidents are occurring resulting in loss of precious life  at unmanned level crossings.

Suggest solutions for reducing accidents at unmanned level crossings.

Suggestion 1. Restrict local passengers to enter the long route train (Not only specific train(like shatabdi) but for all trains). May be we can add 2 bogi for local passengers which cost should be greater than general to avoid the general class rush. One TT should be in local pasenger bogi which duty should be change after 2-3 station and passengers also allow to travel only for fix distance travel.

Problem The biggest challenge of Railway is what I feel is the availability of tickets. If you get ticket then its a big challenge to get your seat without any interruption (SL Class). The reason behind this is, in a long route train local passenger travels in unauthorise way and by force they sit on your seats. The other rush is of waiting class. I think if we can resolve this issue without any cost/budgets, just need introduse new policies.

Railway stations are generally found to be dirty. Reason being rampant sale of food items by hawkers and illetracy of people to throw garbage on the station.we also have Delhi Metro stations which are clean. reason, no food articles are allowed to be sold on the platform.can this not be done at Indian Rail stations?have designated stalls outside the platform, provide enough dustbins, admonish & penalise people who litter.

Any entrance to the railway tracks should be closed. Flyovers and FOBS should be available at all stations connecting the West and the East. Strict action and penalty to be imposed on those who try to violate the law.Standby Ambulances need to be present at all stations.

In cities like Mumbai.. 1. It is required to monitor agents buying tickets.. 2. Luggage limitation like Airlines is must. Extra baggage should be charged. 3. Safety tank required to maintain the cleanliness on tracks

Sreenivasa Rao Karade; -Accidents at Unmanned Level Crossings can be prevented from the following measures of actions: 1. Setting up Red Light Signals flashing towards into direction of each side of road i.e. public-passers by.which is automatically electrically operatable by station masters or relevant staff before 10mts to pass the train from that place. So public vehicles-passers by get altered and stopped there. 2.Constructing Tunnel Roads & Bridges wherever possible in developed places.
