We can develop a cheap and effective sensing system which can be based on the same technique used by Bats / Submarines. These sensors can be placed at the front of train and can be used to track any material on the track at the height of 0.5-1 meter and within the range of 5-10 meters. In case, if sensors receive the wave back then emergency brakes could be applied. This technology can avoid not only unmanned crossing accident but also train accidents. Sensor range can vary with the train speed.

Double the capacity of Mumbai Local trains. Local trains are the lifeline of Mumbai. Unfortunately, it is a nightmare to travel by them. The capacity of Mumbai Local trains should be doubled by building a whole set of new railway lines on top of existing railway lines. This will be both technically feasible and cost effective. It will solve the public transport problem of Mumbai for the next 50 years, if not for ever.

Double the passenger carrying capacity in 4 years.
When a person has to travel by train his biggest worry is 'Will I get a reserved ticket'. Many trains are fully booked on the day their reservation opens. In the next railway budget, priority should be given on increasing capacity on these routes. This data is readily available with railways and most people will agree that this is a better basis of deciding new trains (or increased frequency of existing trains) rather than regional demands.

Here are few ways we can minimize accidents 1) Automated barrier systems to halt&move the traffic which can be controlled by the nearest station master 2) Stricter fines that the Railway Police Force can enforce and on the spot detention with a jail term for 2-3 days minimum. 3) Fencing within the city limits or where the population around the railway station is high. 4) Overhead and Under bridges with ramps. 5) CCTV at every crossing which the station master or RPF personal can monitor.
