Section 161 of Railway act indicates “If any person driving or leading a vehicle is negligent in crossing an unmanned level crossing, he shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to one year.”

Section 131 of the Motor Vehicle Act indicates that “Every driver of a motor vehicle at the approach of any unguarded railway level crossing shall cause the vehicle to stop and the driver of the vehicle shall cause the conductor or cleaner or attendant or any other person in the vehicle to walk up to the level crossing and ensure that no train or trolley is approaching from either side and then pilot the motor vehicle across such level crossing, and where no conductor or cleaner or attendant or any other person is available in the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle shall get down from the vehicle himself to ensure that no train or trolley is approaching from either side before the railway track is crossed”

However due to non-following of relevant rules by the road users, many accidents are occurring resulting in loss of precious life  at unmanned level crossings.

Suggest solutions for reducing accidents at unmanned level crossings.

Awareness of rules, consciousness to implement the awareness in practice requires fundamental training. As we teach a child to wash hand before eating & develops the same habit from childhood, similarly MV act or Rly acts should be brought to primary education level along with rule of the road, both at home & school, so that this knowledge will be a way of life of every individual. Manning the Un guarded level crossings is not the solutions, as people trespass below the boom when it is closed.

Minimise the unmanned crossing way by linking the road to main one which is having man operated gate and over /under bridge to cross the rail. 2. Provide Visual traffic signal board and revolving lamp alarm and operate automatically, link with railway signal. 3. Ensure 2 speed breaker provided on both side 10m &15 distance 4.Provide visual radium sign board. 5. Any new construction of road, kachha road across railway must get railway and safety approval, if not punish panchayat official.

#4: Install Automatic ALARM system to ring the bell in advance when trains are coming ...like Signal Flag, Signal Alarm .... #5: Open some small Govt or Social outlets like Post depot/ local choki/ NGO's activity area/ Village's panchayat office etc...something in close proximity who could well educate or keep monitoring ...for better social responsibility Most important : People should be aware of its DANGER....and its responsibility through different programs by Govt/ NGOs/ local Adminis..

people posting not relevant to the topic...Unmanned Level Crossing ! As per me, in all area where there is UNMANNED CROSSING, we should follow the below points: #1: People should be educated by District Administrator level - DM/ SP/ Local Politicians etc or by Social Services etc... #2: A big Poster / Cut-Out/ Notice in BIG LETTERS should be installed at every UNMANNED CroSSING - for everyone to know why it is there...very much VISIBLE to ALL. #3: petrol pumps should educate customers always

The platform tickets should be charged Rs 10/- per person. This would reduce unnecessary traffic on railway stations & generate funds which could be used to keep the stations clean & secure. By keeping dog squads on the stations of metros & prime cities would update the safety & security measures thereby reducing terrorist & criminal activities & raising our security standards at global level.

America Respects China for Non Corrupt China and Fears due to thier Military power... America Disrespects India due to its corrupt Government and Did't fear due to Inadequate military power. Proof.... is Obama in a press Conference folded his foot not towards Xijinping but where as for India he folded his foot towards modi this proves that that they treat us their slaves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3C1jLPIb_w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDYarhCmvfM

Recently I had traveled from Rampurhat to Burdwan via Ma Tara Express. The experience was harrowing. That route is a very busy one. There should be some more trains needed.
