Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

Include learned parents of the locality in school management committees instead of ward members and other politicos. Invite those learned parents to help develop a curriculum for their children for school separately in coordination with the learned teachers Start a new national eligibility test for all existing and aspiring teachers. The test should not just test the bookish knowledge also their psychological competence

Quality of books of govt. schools is very poor. Are our policy makers blind? Why don't they implement the books of such a standard as a public schools do. Quality of books sustain the inerest of students.Govt. schools' students wouldn't feel inferior even.

@Saikat Routh If you don't agree with me, then try to threaten the rich that their children will have to learn through mother tongue only. You will find the answer. They are silent because poor people are not their children, so least brother about it. But if it comes to their children, I bet they will not sit silent.
