Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

There should not be special efforts to find out the learning outcome like exams/tests but the outcome should be observed and recorded on daily basis that how a child is learning/ improving and what is to be done. At elementary stage the test/exam is of that of the teacher and not of the child.

There is one Institution called KUMON which specializes in writing,reading and math at elementary level. Their methodology is worth study and to implement.

In elementary stage the environment, ambience, appearance and look of the school/classroom should be appealing to the child. At planning stage, the school should be designed keeping these aspects. Like in some countries, the outer and inner part of the school is colorful,gorgeous and attracting so that an adult would like to go inside.

the elementary education has not developed basic infrastructure in school till today . if our country want to change in basic education development than . first any one can think for education after fulfill the water, food, cloths and shelter/roof health . but our government have no money for basic need. we have no sufficient teaching staff. how can educated the poor persons ? the easiest method we can prepare the education films and show these film in evening night in groups.

Apart from reading,writing and math, there should be emphasis on value based teachings which will make the foundation of future citizen of the country.

The one of the traits of teachers should be that they should be trained in children behavioral science so that they can understand them and win their hearts. Teachers should not give up at once or twice but should make continuous efforts that the child starts loving to go to school.

The main focus of the learning courses in elementary school should be pictorial, toys, games, practical documentary, stories, listening, to act, to speak, team plays, drawings,outlining , simple musical instruments etc. which in all cases teaches some sort of reading, writing, math and understanding.

must not bifurcate studies into arts science commerce but instead allow children to concentrate on a particular subject and not on a particular field

One of the traits of teachers in elementary school should be that they are trained/some course in psychology related to child behavior. The teacher will be able to identify the interest/favorites of the child which will help to shape up his future studies.

The teacher should provide informal education at this stage. Become one amongst them so that they open up faster.Then they can be shown a movie or a photograph and asked to voice their opinion of what they saw and what they felt about it. Thus communication begins between a teacher and a taught and their process of thinking begins. This is their first step towards learning and teacher's first step towards learning outcomes in elementary education.
