Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

Dear Sir, A playful environment will be very crucial in kindling the interest in the subjects which is taught in schools. More focus needs to laid on practical application rather than getting fixated in theoretical way. Further numerous libraries should be established in order to inculcate reading habit in youngsters in particular and whole country at large. This will transform India if made a mass movement. So a country will be rich if its Human Capital is realized to optimum level.

The marks based system has proved that "marks" are not the criteria for judging a person's intellectual capacity.CCE is an appreciative effort but fails to impress the teachers who have been "believing" that marks are the sole criteria.Even today, many schools discourage students from participating in sports and other "co-curricular" activities. The NEP should consider the failure of marks system, reason for "3 idiots" movie success, present day generation's attitude etc while considering the policy

While having EoY Exams are not the answer for children, having weekly tests & projects to gauge each child's performance & aptitude should be done. & there is nothing wrong in a little friendly competition. As Adults & grown children you are always competing for that better school/college, better Job, so kids need to be able to handle the competition. This should also be the primary focus of Education policy. If your foundations are week, how are you ever going to build a strong structure?

Sir, the accent should be unwaveringly on excellence, to think big, only then will we reach half way. If our goal is to have a learned & not just a basic literate society, we need to emphasise on quality education & infrastructure. Awareness on need to educate is growing in strength, however there is no uniformity in curricula or grading levels of teachers or students. Primary education should be in mother tongue, not exam oriented but activity based, school hours reasonable, no tuition centres.

My entire agenda-wish is to make parents, students, and teachers more aware at a much earlier stage (which is hard given the large number of students) in child education about progress and monitoring without any consequences making them aware? In this sense, such a system would look more like a US based primary school system than that of a British based system. Thank you for reading and thank you to Prime Minister Modi and his cabinet for all that they do. They are the correct leaders for us.

...kind of system vs the big 10th 12th grade exam types is comparability of student results across different schools, states etc. Well, we can all create the same curriculum for all schools with certain nuances, with the same learning outcomes, quizzes, tests exams etc..or have the different by each school, teacher's choice etc...and have only a few exams that are standardized across jurisdictions that are partially used as assessment tools for secondary education or later primary education?

...takers...others not so much. So if we take our voluminous curriculum, break it down into smaller pieces, assess more frequently (small quizzes, tests, assignments, final exams)..provide real time feedback (grading) so students and parents all throughout the course know where they stand....by doing so...it improves monitoring...a key to ensuring learning outcomes, good habits and addressing issues before they are potentially late. The class sizes can still be large. The potential issue with...

....and if everyone is busy trying to learn....it becomes normal. Also, students and parents learn much faster if a child gets the subject matter or not? The idea is to break down the voluminous curriculum into much smaller and graded pieces...so many more tests on small amounts of material...leading to success from an early age so that when they have to take a bigger exam....they have a confidence background built up over years to take it, from preparation habits. Some of us are good test....

into more pieces, more topics (creating sub-topics out of major ones to be more specific) to provide more subject choices to students at a younger age with core classes that our mandatory (Indian History-sub history types, hindi, one more language, English, math, science (bio, chem, physics etc) with weekly assessment via quizzes, pop quizzes, tests, assignments....exams...because then....kids have no choice but to do the work. There is no way out to skip class, copy friend's homework, and....
