Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

...that is to unfortunately or fortunately....is to monitor their progress more frequently and in a less daunting environment? Otherwise, if we go through school without having to take tests that count until only 10 and 12 grade, we could actually make it to 10th grade not knowing anything. And then...all of a sudden we have to learn it all to pass an exam and then prepare for the next.....regardless of the curriculum or topics at hand? Alternatively, we could break down our curriculums...

Good morning; I have previously expressed my thoughts on education reform back October, when this subject was not available, I think but perhaps I may be more concise under this topic..which I think hits the core issue of our education system on the head. When Indian Govt. will also respect and recognize the Talent of Poor Indians? It will be more fruitful to recognize, enhance and promote the majority of poor “talent” of India in place of SSA or RTE. It is an absolute wastage of public fund or money. It will be more effective to assist and provide “Total Education Package” only for talented poor students of India. Several talented but poor students are crushed due to expensive professional education system in India.

For learning disabled students, only “Literacy Programmes” with extended session and their age limit, are sufficient with craft-skill base education (ITI) which will be more easy and appropriate, as compared with intricate curriculum of SSA (Education for All) or RTE; which becomes worthless after getting their elementary education. Education for All is very good programme but “ALL” is further divided in to talented and learning disabled students, so their curriculum must not be the same.

Start pay for performance for teachers in primary schools and give posting to only those who are really intrestead in teaching and follow decipline in their lives. Their public life and even personal habits must be noted before selection. Such good teachers can only change outcomes in elementary education.
