Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

Teaching is a good job however I think many teachers feel its a monotonous job. A grading system between teachers from the feed back of students, relative to ultimate incentive and increment may accelerate their motivation to care each child and educate them properly.

The most important thing is what you learn than exam, but unfortuently exam and marks get more importance than learning in our education system, I think activity based learning is best where children shall feel that they need to learn for real objective not for exam.

Poor teachers who themselves are illiterate in many schools. I have sufficient evidence from studies and my own personal experience teaching in a slum school that throwing more money at the problem in the name of "resources" is not the solution- having charts and other teaching aids in the classroom help, but they have limits. The teacher needs to engage the children in multiple ways to keep their curiosity alive- it is already in them. There are many rubrics for assessment that can be used.

Current reservation system doesn't help the deserving people for e.g. 2(1 general and 1 others ) students are studying in the same institute and parents of general candidate are somehow managing to teach but the other's parents are well-off , the general canditate got 20k+ rank and other's got 100k+ rank in an entrance test because of reservation the general student won't get a good government college but the other student will get into a top-notch college. Thousands of students are affected.

I ve been running a coaching institute since 15 years. In my opinion the basic problems with the current education system is not only with the changed attitudes of the children but also a lack of enthusiasm in teachers . Educational institutions have become far too commercial and there is a lack of social interest .Excessive use of internet regarding submission of projects on the part of students has made them mechanical followers rather than creative innovators .

Sir, Aristotle said "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit". Why is school education which is the bulwark of all learning given the short shrift, should not excellence be the by word. Mid day meals, RTE, uniforms, free books are only co-opted ideals, the goal & attention should be & always be on the quality of education. If we have to be competitive, we need improved curricula, infrastructure & qualified staff. All India grading system will be useful.

Working as International department head in a university, I have learn three things. one except there is problem with teachers and try to rectify it honestly. Two create an environment where critical thinking of pupil is developed. A student should not only study to give exam and pass exam. They must be given opportunities to express themselves openly. Industrial integration with higher study must be encouraged. Three, the teaching should be a business with a holistic approach.

Thinking ability of a student must be increased by teaching them the application of the topics they are taught rather then just giving them few questions and their answers which are asked in exams. Real-time education system will help them think problems differently. Rattafication must be removed and their is need to change the reservation system it must not be based on caste , we should look for other parameters like income (but income certificates are also faked), process must be made fair.
