Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

Problem is not their ambitions, but the deadly struggle to achieve this right from preschool age. School Education needs dramatic change...mo

Somehow our primary education system was good.We suppose to ensure the age limitation to start primary schooling of the child.Because in our country, child started the primary formal schooling education from 3.5-4 years. This is not healthy nature to start education. So government should fix the age for child to start primary schooling. RTE act would be one step of a holistic implementation process.Others being: -Focus on qualitythan quantity-recruiting criteria for teachers has to be stringent. Make it similar to one of Civil Servants -District wise "action and vigilance bodies"(comprising of experts,NGOs etc) to check the monthly progress and of all schools of that area and suggest and implement reforms. If reforms are untouched will render principal or staff jobless -bodies accountable to DM- RTI applicable on their reports

Education in India appears to be neither job-oriented nor value based. Certainly it was very unfortunate that though the socio-economic demands changed we did not come out with a new policy on education after 1986(1992). Direct participation of students at all levels of education is extremely important. Project-based or case-based education would involve both the teachers and students. Plus use of technology would be the best way to improve the system of education.

Sir, elementary education should concentrate on preventing drop-outs, especially among girl children. Learning should be in the mother tongue and should not involve learning by rote. Life skills, sufficient play time and extra-curricular activities should be encouraged. Basic education should be compulsory with no school turning away children. They should preferably join the nearest school / balvidyalaya - within 2 kms, common teaching instructions & regular teaching updates should be held.
