Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

Pass/Fail system should be brought back. Bcoz it ensures that the children sitting in one class are in a well defined range of Knowledge. It will help teachers to plan the contents for their teaching. Presently a teacher is not teaching a class but only a few,may be bright students or may be slow learners. Whole class is not targetted. With present system (compulsory promotion)it seems very very difficult.

Plz remove no detention policy. It should be applicable only till class 3.I am a teacher of Physics. I am teaching to IX, X,XI and XII and I am seeing that now 90% students coming to class IX do not have minimum required knowledge to understand class 9 syllabus. They are not able to perform basic mathematical operations. So the gap is basically very large. These students face problems in class and also loose confidence. So either remove no detention policy or fully remove examination system.

Students should go to school not with a feeling to get marks but to attain knowledge. They are bound to byheart byt not to apply what they have read.Freedom based system is not implemented till now in India.I think we should imply a new"FREEDOM BASED SYSTEM FOR STUDENTS".According to that-1)The place of studying should be colourfull, interesting but not as todays govschools.Students should not be judged as per their marks but on their knowledge. To do a new method of learning is to beintroduced.Tnx
