Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

In addition to the views our Elementary schools should have all study rooms as subject rooms in spite of traditional class rooms. This will- 1- Encourage teacher towards his duty and interests as well as allow him/her to do action research to implement his innovative ideas according to the need of subject, study and students in his laboratory i.e. subject room. 2- subj.labs of language,History,Evs fm primary level make the teaching-learning more reliable, scientific and interesting too.

Ensure the teacher is up to date with the syllabus by organising a biannual test including academic and interpersonal communication skills. Test will compulsorily keep the teacher in contact with the books and subject that he teach.
