Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

Elementary Education should be in our National Languaage. it`s easy to uderstand by the kids. Primary Teachers should be well trained to get the better outcome of students. We should use Learn by fun method to teach them. Teacher should get involved with students to encourage them for future result.

Elementary education should be activity based. This reading, writing and numeracy skill should be linked with the practical life.

One more and most important thing is this that all subjects should be taught with inter correlation. Science has language in it. In the same way language has science, maths, geography etc in it. Can't a good poem be an example of some historic, geographic or scientific theory? Maths can be taught better with rhymes and practical knowledge of nature. NO SUBJECT SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN ISOLATION. THIS LEADS TO FRAGMENTED VIEW OF A THING IN THE REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE.

For better outcome at the elementary level the whole education should b action based and not memory based. Other points... 1. The elementary education must b given in the mother tongue only. 2. The text books must be smaller having little content. The rest must be taught with wide range of discussions and lot of references. 3. Sanskrit must b taught from std. 1 in the form of oral Subhashitas. 4. English should be introduced from std. 4 5. The lady teachers should b recruited preferably.

Change in behaviour through experience and training. New skill development Process. Behaviour in problem solving. Strength to reaction. Make enable themselves in changing environment. Make effective use of advisory institutions eg. CABE, UGC, N.A.A.C, N.C.E.R.T, S.C.E.R.T, DIET Etc. Pre-teaching training Should be provided (ETT)Effectively. Special and wide knowledge must be made essential for resource personals also.

6. The semester system must not prevail longer 7. The compulsory passing system under RTE must be stopped at the earliest. 8. The Syllabus must contain Indian values. 9. Yog, Music and Physical Edu. should be given more weightage. 10. Touch of Nature must be there in every subject
