Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

Children should learn different subjects through workshops rather than mugging up the tables, alphabets, grammar, etc. Sports and extra curricular activities should be made compulsory to get promoted to next class i.e. out of 10 scale, 7 points should be given to sports & extra curricular activities and only 3 point to class subjects marks. It will ensure full mind and body development.

anganavady should provide all things what the small child needs. it sould be enriched with stories and rhymes on indian values, culture and excite them with the bravery of our freedom fighters and the characters of indian epics . there should not be a competitive atmosphere till 4 th standard.but a strong foundation building curriculum is needed there.on reaching the age of 11 a child will have to pass through the exuberant colourful, gorgeous indian heritage and teach minimum 4 language
