The stage 2 of the Smart City competition is very crucial as each city’s Smart City Proposal (SCP) is supposed to contain the model chosen, whether retrofitting or redevelopment or greenfield development or a mix thereof, and additionally include Pan-City dimension with Smart Solutions. The Smart City Proposal (SCP) will also outline the consultations held with the city residents and other stakeholders. Also, a vision for the Smart City has to be prepared, and this vision should emerge from the needs, aspirations and wishes of the local people to make their city offering more to live better life.

The biggest driver of the Smart City is the smart citizen. Citizen involvement in Smart Cities is elevated. So, the Smart City Proposal will be Citizen Centric, designated after consultations with residents of the city and through active participation of various groups such as Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs), Tax Payers Associations (TPAs), Senior Citizens and Slum Dwellers Associations (SDAs).

During consultations, various issues such as areas of utmost concern, needs and priorities of citizens and different groups/associations will be identified and people centric solutions will be evolved.

Chandigarh Administration hereby invites the citizens of Chandigarh to share their views on ‘How to make Chandigarh a Smart City’. The campaign aims to increase public participation in Chandigarh Administration’s effort to garner support for the city’s quest for a Smart City tag.

The residents of Chandigarh can also post, share their ideas, views and opinions on ‘Smart Chandigarh’- the official mobile app of U.T., Administration.

Frequency of AC buses needs to be increased. Special schemes for attracting people to use these buses. Maybe tie up with corporates, govt offices. Buses need to be GPS enabled and their location should be trackable so that people know how long will it take before the bus reaches their stop. Regarding other vehicles (cars, autos), we need to be strict with issuing pollution check certificate. If any vehicle is polluting the environment, the owner should be heavily fined.

public transport system needs to be strengthened in the city. By public transport, I refer to the network of buses. For a newcomer, it is very difficult to know which bus plies on which route. what is the frequency. what are the stops. what is the estimated time. Due to this most people prefer using autos/taxis. This is leading to increase in pollution. An interactive mobile app needs to be built to address these queries. Besides, a 24X7 customer care helpline needs to be setup (to give info)

it is generally observed that though we are racing towards being smart city but certain actions are like road blocks. The auto -rickshaws are ruling the roads. They stop where they need to pick the passengers. All roundabouts are in their control ignoring the safety of others.WHY DO NOT WE EARMARK SPOTS FOR THEM LIKE THE BUS STOPS FROM WHERE THEY CAN PICK THEIR NEEDY TRAVELLERS

Chandigarh itself is not expandable but definitely can, if tricity is been accepted for the same, including Zirakpur, Mohali & Punchkula. Area makes the thing difficult to expand & provide basic necessities like Better education on utmost priority. Metro thru all connecting areas shall be made at the earliest.
