The stage 2 of the Smart City competition is very crucial as each city’s Smart City Proposal (SCP) is supposed to contain the model chosen, whether retrofitting or redevelopment or greenfield development or a mix thereof, and additionally include Pan-City dimension with Smart Solutions. The Smart City Proposal (SCP) will also outline the consultations held with the city residents and other stakeholders. Also, a vision for the Smart City has to be prepared, and this vision should emerge from the needs, aspirations and wishes of the local people to make their city offering more to live better life.

The biggest driver of the Smart City is the smart citizen. Citizen involvement in Smart Cities is elevated. So, the Smart City Proposal will be Citizen Centric, designated after consultations with residents of the city and through active participation of various groups such as Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs), Tax Payers Associations (TPAs), Senior Citizens and Slum Dwellers Associations (SDAs).

During consultations, various issues such as areas of utmost concern, needs and priorities of citizens and different groups/associations will be identified and people centric solutions will be evolved.

Chandigarh Administration hereby invites the citizens of Chandigarh to share their views on ‘How to make Chandigarh a Smart City’. The campaign aims to increase public participation in Chandigarh Administration’s effort to garner support for the city’s quest for a Smart City tag.

The residents of Chandigarh can also post, share their ideas, views and opinions on ‘Smart Chandigarh’- the official mobile app of U.T., Administration.

All the small booths,S.C.F engaged in serving eatables in open verandas must necessarily keep guidelines for the users to throw used plates etc, left over eatables in the dust bins.It should be the duty of owners of such businesses to clean the area while they close their businesses in night

While solution to parking problem lies in building multi-level and hydrolic automated parking in each sector, the condition of roads is dismal at most places despite repeated repairs. As illustration, one of the most frequented road passing between sector 12 PGI and Boys college sector 11 is full of pits-watching for the last one year. Can you consider Singapore model to make Chandigarh smart!

Make a Smart Chandigarh website and a free SMS notifying service to go with the app. Make it available on as many platforms as possible. Integrate services into it with time, such as fully/partially completing (bank, admission, appointment, registration) processes online. Make separate subdomains such as: discussions, news, information, lost+found, updates from UT admin or others, etc. Install computers functioning as information/service portals in cafes, restaurants, shops, etc.

In order to make Chandigarh a smart city Chandigarh Admin should introduce a system of paying Lease Money/Ground Rent/Interest of various properties like SCO's, Bay Shops, Booths, Industrial Area Buildings, Hotels etc online which is the need of the hour. Presently, the only mode of payment is by Demand Drafts which is a cumbersome method as first we have to go to bank to make a demand Drafts and then have to make a visit to Estate Office in sector 17 to submit that. Looking forward to it !!!

Road accidents cause huge loss of lives in India. A huge number of accidents occur during night from standing trucks which are either faulty or are not properly placed. Quite often less lighting is observed in accidental area. Truck drivers usually place some stones/bricks or plants around those trucks to avoid accidents. this further worsens the situation especially in fog/rain. If the truck drivers use cost effective fluorescent stop signs to hang/ paint on trucks, it can safe many lives.

Smart cities means smart roads. Well engineered roads. No resurfacing of roads should be done again and again. Resurfacing of the roads means corruption. Make the roads smart; cities will automatically become smart. Development means good smart roads.
