In order to design an interoperable ecosystem of data, applications and processes, there is a need to formulate a policy for the Government Organizations to provide Open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). The “Policy on Open APIs for Government of India” has been drafted to encourage formal use of Open APIs in Government Organizations. This policy sets out the Government’s approach on the use of “Open APIs” to promote software interoperability for all e-Governance applications & systems and provide access to data & services for promoting participation of citizens and other stakeholders.

You are requested to provide your inputs on the policy and suggest implementation approach across the government.

About 60% and above resident indian public not well known to computers as well as mobile. But he is more friendly with Television. Government should start a OWN GOVERNMENT CHANNEL (MYGov) and give slots (Time) to all their Ministries one by one in particular fix time and days. So that All citizen of india can take informations easily and directly for all ministries programme and work done by them in particular periods. It may be very helpful rather than Computer/Mobile application.

Dear Sirs, We can develop and API which can run on all smart phones. Many FMCG companies have the same system for thier ERP. We can monitor and provide tasks to all employees online. As well smart phones have GPS nowadays. We can command device to provide GPS location of particular employee, all goverment forms which are needed to be fulfilled by employees will be part of the API. Infact we can introduce "Worlds first Paperless Governance"

By building such a application development platform, and opening up the actual application development to the community (like Apache Software Foundation did), e-governance will become viral and take off with minimal government involvement except at the most fundamental level.

This should be done with a view to geometrically advance e-governance. The APIs should be exposed based on a model done by successful platforms such as Google, Facebook, Twitter etc. With this, instead of restricting to developing an API, we should look to build a complete Application development platform. Let the application development (for example irctc like or any other actions) be completely opened up so citizens can step up and create applications using the underlying application platform.

Very first step to start open api is that we have come up with set of standards and regulations. And these standards can only be set by very experienced dedicated team. Once the standards are done we can expose those core api's to the public to use and provide different flavors of application.

We should have one common Identity System. Aadhar tried for that but approach was wrong or unimplemented. I think we have a very common system in which each user has only one Identity Master Card which works for Driving License, PAN Card, Voter Card, Identity Card etc. A person's all data is stored on some cloud server and API's would be created to share data for example if RTO swaps the card with RTO Key then person's License details should be available same for bank.. Hon Prime minister, I would request you to do all transaction more than Rs 10000 through banking, so corruption will be automatically reduced to 90%.
