Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is the National Olympic Committee of India and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee. IOA is, inter alia, responsible for the preparation and participation of Indian sportspersons and teams in the Olympic Games as well as in Regional events like Commonwealth and Asian Games. The other responsibilities undertaken by the IOA include deciding the organisation of National Gamesand promoting and developing the Olympic Movement.

National Sports Federations (NSFs) are responsible for promotion and development of specific sports disciplines. Conduct of National championships and participation of Indian sportspersons and teams of a specific sports discipline in World Championships, Asian Championships and Commonwealth Championships, among others, is responsibility of the concerned NSF.

IOA and NSFs are autonomous bodies registered under Societies Registration Act. Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has been insisting with IOA and NSFs to ensure transparency and good governance in their functioning and selection of sportspersons for participation in international tournaments.

Sports Federations should be kept away from political clout. Is my govt. ready to do this? Ensure that no politician is involved in sports' federations and that only experts run the show. Involve ex-athletes, veterans and stalwarts of sports. Get quality coaches, improve infrastructure at ground level.

Dear Sir, Answer to your question lies in the question itself. Autonomy - Financial as well as Administrative. Remove dependence of sports associations on Govt Funding. Let them earn their bread & butter, only than they will focus on nurturing talent and good governance. Just note how BCCI became richest sports board in the world. Another way is to link pay of officials with medals in international sports events. Monetary competition will ensure survival of fittest and ensure Acche Din in Sport

Mr Prime Minister... Whatever recently happened in the SAI hostel in Kerala really reflects about the real picture of dilapidated state our sports bodies are in. The conditions these athletes live in and the facilities with respect to the equipment, coaches , food etc are really pathetic and need special attention from PMO, only then I believe we as a country to reckon with in competitive sports. Till date all the sports person excepts in cricket, have got laurels basis their own effort
