India has a long tradition of excellence in making handloom products with extraordinary skills and craftsmanship. 44 lakh weavers are engaged in this activity, out of which 78% are women.

By the Handlooms (Reservation of Articles for production) Act, 1985, the Central Government has reserved articles or class of articles for exclusive production of handlooms for the protection and development of the handloom industry.
Further to this effort, the Ministry of Textiles launched “Handloom Mark” scheme with effect from 28.06.2006 for promoting and preserving the Indian handloom products and securing a premium position in the domestic as well as international market. This provides a collective identity to the handloom products of India for popularizing the hand woven products originating from the handloom sector. Thus, the Handloom Mark does not necessarily guarantee a bench mark quality for the product, but ensures only the origin of the product.

Though the weavers produce rich variety of designs and textures, there is not much emphasis on the quality of the product due to various reasons. Experience of implementing Handloom Mark in the past years indicate that this has served the limited purpose of production of cloth by handlooms and not been able to address the quality related parameters which are integral for development of handloom as a niche product.

It is stressed on the need to produce a fabric “with no defect and no effect on environment” and develop “Indian Handlooms” brand for assuring quality products meeting social and environmental compliances.

Instead of making fines who dont use helmet while driving two wheeler, trafic police sell helmets, who dont use helmet. So everytime when a person is driving two wheeler and dont have helmet he will be given helmet instead of making fines. Ultimately when person having lots of helmet, he will always carry helmet.

put a column for public opinion about Railway and General Budget. Get the same and add valuable suggestion in the budget. Make Budget a normal routine exercise and not a source of windfall gain for some, give option offer espionage, waste of public hard earned money in the name of security exercise, waste time of investigating agency and final result of such investigation does not deter other person to not to repeat the same and at last it remains in the honourable courts for years.

We can relate it to history of our country like what it was in pre independent India, where its products used to get exported, how much it was in demand, how it was ruined by Britishers in a pictorial form which can be understood by layman. By using it in government office decoration in the light of Swatch Bharat Program.

govt should not waste public money by giving advertisement in the TV, Print Media, Radio and sign board.even if required an advertisement, do not call brand ambassador to appear in the advertisement and spend hard earned money of poor people for this. instead call a poor person for such advertisement appearance and pay him 10 percent amount payable to brand ambassador. such man will become richer person and he tell others about his achievement and thus more spread of the advertisement

Handlooms in India has been giving quality products. The problem is they are not getting enough exposure. My personal examples is, when I went to visit places, only the guide of the local area knew about the government run hand-loom shop. How about promoting it as a brand like Amul. The brand can be an umbrella for all the hand loom weavers who can sell it easily. There should be a brand ambassador. This can also be used to attract foreign tourists. It in turn boosts the economy of the Country.

Market the Indian handlooms under the brandname of Mohandas Textiles with a royalty payment to the Gandhi Trust to be utilized for upkeep of the heirlooms.
