As the Indian population continues to grow there will be an immense competition for natural resources while achieving food, nutritional, environmental and livelihood security in the country. In addition, the negative consequences of climate change become more evident in agriculture with exploitation of natural resources, decline in soil fertility, ground water levels to meet the ever increasing demands for food and nutritional requirements. To maintain sustainable balance between natural resources and the demand, immediate attention is needed in several areas viz., imbalanced use of fertilizers, declining soil organic carbon, lowering of water table, soil health, organic farming and climate change impact in agriculture sector.

Recent studies on soil biodiversity, rapid composting techniques, use of bio-filters for removal of heavy metals from compost, application of Nano sensors in agriculture to improve nutrient use efficiency, need based fortification of micro nutrients; availability of soil health card, conservation agriculture for enhancing soil health etc. will support sustainable management of natural resources in agriculture.

With a particular focus on scientific and technical understanding of natural resources management, this portal tries to incorporate stakeholders suggestions in achieving sustainable natural resources management.

There are floods in kosi, brahmaputra and other himalayan rivers, but drought in southcentral, central, western India. From high altitude himalayan dams, water can be taken to other river basins through aqueducts with low cost and no land acquisition hassles easily for thousands of kilometers north india to south, west india as a part of river connecting. Takes time but huge benefit is there.Include it in NITI Aayog. Dams in Himachal, J&K,UTTARAKHAND, Nepal,Bhutan, Arunachal are needed, use them.

Use dried up borewells in cities, for rainwater recharge. The rainwater in cities that fall on terraces is being wasted and being let on roads. Instead use special filters (already being used in bangalore), and use it for domestic purposes. Or else where space is problem in cities for small house plots, they can let rainwater into dried up borewell.(fix filter artificial or natural before letting it as we should not pollute groundwater)Usually rainwater is pure.

collection and movement of farm produce are not farmer oriented. cooperative groups of farmers at regional level with district/state level bodies to collect, transport and sell products will ensure better price. state level civil supplies departments can be part of the system. pilot project may be taken up to form such farmer groups in the new adarsh gram yojna.
