As the Indian population continues to grow there will be an immense competition for natural resources while achieving food, nutritional, environmental and livelihood security in the country. In addition, the negative consequences of climate change become more evident in agriculture with exploitation of natural resources, decline in soil fertility, ground water levels to meet the ever increasing demands for food and nutritional requirements. To maintain sustainable balance between natural resources and the demand, immediate attention is needed in several areas viz., imbalanced use of fertilizers, declining soil organic carbon, lowering of water table, soil health, organic farming and climate change impact in agriculture sector.

Recent studies on soil biodiversity, rapid composting techniques, use of bio-filters for removal of heavy metals from compost, application of Nano sensors in agriculture to improve nutrient use efficiency, need based fortification of micro nutrients; availability of soil health card, conservation agriculture for enhancing soil health etc. will support sustainable management of natural resources in agriculture.

With a particular focus on scientific and technical understanding of natural resources management, this portal tries to incorporate stakeholders suggestions in achieving sustainable natural resources management.

Planting tree saplings on Environment day is good message However with burning temperature of 44 degrees and growing scarcity of water how much will be survival rate. Should we not think of Drip irrigation. It conserves around 70% water and the survival rate of trees/plants can tremendously improve and give much better results

As well as, in future instead of depending on other areas for coconuts & tender coconuts, we can have a huge in house coconut production at a lesser cost. All these coconut production can give exchequer additional revenue also. Instead of having contaminated soft drinks or cold drinks & other artificial beverages, we can have healthy, pure & natural tender coconut water & a good healthy society. This will also save our valuable foreign exchange outflow to international soft drink manufacturers

Now a days we are facing acute problem of soil erosion & encroachment on mangrove. If authorities can rearrange the mangrove forest well and good, but it seems not so easy. Since we are having a huge sea and a creak shore, most of which is idle as of now. To reduce the impact of soil erosion we can have coconut sampling planted across all the Creak Shore & Sea Shore. This will help to reduce the problem of soil erosion as well as we can have a beautiful creek & Sea shore & long term greenery.

Due to climate change now your don't find demarcated rainy season, to support rainfed farming. In India 70% of agriculture is rainfed dependent. I wish to suggest that, all along the coastal line, huge desalination plants be constructed and the desalinated water be channeled to reservoirs which can serve as a source of irrigation thus strengthening food security. If research on feasibility of such a program on financial terms or suitability of such water for agriculture can be tested on pilot.
