As the Indian population continues to grow there will be an immense competition for natural resources while achieving food, nutritional, environmental and livelihood security in the country. In addition, the negative consequences of climate change become more evident in agriculture with exploitation of natural resources, decline in soil fertility, ground water levels to meet the ever increasing demands for food and nutritional requirements. To maintain sustainable balance between natural resources and the demand, immediate attention is needed in several areas viz., imbalanced use of fertilizers, declining soil organic carbon, lowering of water table, soil health, organic farming and climate change impact in agriculture sector.

Recent studies on soil biodiversity, rapid composting techniques, use of bio-filters for removal of heavy metals from compost, application of Nano sensors in agriculture to improve nutrient use efficiency, need based fortification of micro nutrients; availability of soil health card, conservation agriculture for enhancing soil health etc. will support sustainable management of natural resources in agriculture.

With a particular focus on scientific and technical understanding of natural resources management, this portal tries to incorporate stakeholders suggestions in achieving sustainable natural resources management.

Sir, Kindly ask to recharge the ground water from the bank of river basin during raining season to avert the flood problems faced in the country. If done in time ,it would be a great step in conservation of natural resources. Heavy plantation is also required in prevention of climate change and disasters for future generation so that sustain progress should be maintained by your dedicated and devoted team.

Generally most of the people in villages have front yard infront of their houses but without any trees and without fencing. Thr shd be sufficient nursaries managed by govt and with the help private funds to supply the plants on very low price or iff possible for free in monsoon season every yr.Please educate the villagers to fruit plants as many as possible and provide them proper fencing to protect the plants from cattles. This way they can earn some money as well as can have good health.

Farming community should be encouraged to adopt latest technology in cultivation, harvesting and minimum use of chemicals and pesticides. Make one village in every block for dairy farm, rain water harvesting and extend organic farming by involving reputed NGO and Govt agencies. Beside normal crop a fruit bearing, medicinal plants and fast growing trees may be planted to supplement the income of farmers.

We are seeing more and more individual farming enthusiasts in the cities and corporate. Bringing in a model where they can work in the rural would bring in lot of benefits. Being educated, enthusiastic and passionate, they can boost the rural india. New Opportunities would arise. Only problem is that greed should not precede over the core need of building a sustained india.

District level, state level & National level competitions should be conducted among farmers for innovative farming techniques. Some of the best techniques which are found scalable can be handpicked for implementation at the National level. We must bring in a culture of encouraging innovation. Over a period of time the burden on government to bring in latest farming technology will reduce, if each farmer himself is inquisitive in improving the farming techniques.

I would like to share this post from today's (May 5 2015) Deccan Herald newspaper. This talks about how even small farms can supplement their income, and at the same time, help reduce expenses, through Tree Based Farming technique. I am sure that this same technique can be used across the country, with local needs being catered to. You can get more details from the Deshpande Foundation.
