As the Indian population continues to grow there will be an immense competition for natural resources while achieving food, nutritional, environmental and livelihood security in the country. In addition, the negative consequences of climate change become more evident in agriculture with exploitation of natural resources, decline in soil fertility, ground water levels to meet the ever increasing demands for food and nutritional requirements. To maintain sustainable balance between natural resources and the demand, immediate attention is needed in several areas viz., imbalanced use of fertilizers, declining soil organic carbon, lowering of water table, soil health, organic farming and climate change impact in agriculture sector.

Recent studies on soil biodiversity, rapid composting techniques, use of bio-filters for removal of heavy metals from compost, application of Nano sensors in agriculture to improve nutrient use efficiency, need based fortification of micro nutrients; availability of soil health card, conservation agriculture for enhancing soil health etc. will support sustainable management of natural resources in agriculture.

With a particular focus on scientific and technical understanding of natural resources management, this portal tries to incorporate stakeholders suggestions in achieving sustainable natural resources management.

what I have noticed is that the farming sector is not organised and they don’t have voice which reaches to people who takes decisions, the best solution would be to take lands from farmers on rent and give it to big corporate houses only for farming, big corporate houses than can do farming in a very organised manner in which same farmers can employed, thus giving employments to farmers and converting the unorganised farming in to organised and productive farming.

hi all, i have been seeing a lot of comments on greening of inda, but i dont think anyone is actually addressing the root of the problem. LABOUR. Any from of farming is labour intesive and there is a severe shortage of labour. has anubody thought of a scheme to actually form a labour society in the village that will gaurantee employment of locals and also ensure that a farmer gets his labour on a designated date.

To combat climate change and improve soil quality, use biochar (see attached image of effects with/without biochar). Improvement of water table can be done through re-forestation and water recycling. Removal of toxic pollutants - bioremeditation is an excellent method that has no adverse impacts, seek to set up collaboration with top universities abroad. An example is removal of copper in soil through corn. To preserve water, use drip irrigation systems.

Sir, in addition to the below if every household of urban citizen uses biogas using kitchen waste, it reduces dependability in cooking gas. Domestic bio-gas are available in the market. you may visit http://www.biotech-india.org/Video.aspx. I am not linked to this company any way. Restaurants and vegetable markets are producers of significant amount of bio waste in urban area. Centralized bio gas plants can be source to have green power plants near a city/town. such efforts aid Clean india.

Sir, We welcome your call to the nation to curb imports of natural gas. One small step could bring down to some extent. Most of the farmers are engaged in producing dairy products which has by products of COW DUNG. If a national programme promotes and assists extensively to adopt domenstic Biogas plants in every house helps in reducing the waste, decrease in dependency of cooking gas, improving in clenliness of village and producing natural fertilzer. This would be step to make better India.

Sir, As suggested earlier to operate urban sewerage treatment plant on top priority wherever they are existed with optimum efficiency in step wise phase manner. If, done so, it would become model plant and results will give direction to overcome the teething troubles and bottle necks during operation to achieve the desired results. Our Rivers can be cleaned in phase manner in urban cities first wherever segregation of polluted steams have been done for treatment to

Tree plantation along roads, canals/rivers, water bodies particularly in villages,tourist places, waste lands can have multiple benefits as employment generation, better environment, soil conservation, increased tourism, poverty alleviation and above all revenue generation. Global bodies will be keen to finance such projects. It can be taken as a movement and on war footing
