Existence of insanitary latrines is the root cause of manual scavenging. As per the ‘Houselisting and Housing Census Data, 2011’, there were about 26 lakh insanitary latrines in the country in 2011. All existing insanitary latrines need to be identified and either demolished or converted into sanitary latrines under the provisions of the MS Act.

What innovations can be used to convert insanitary latrines into sanitary latrines in shortest possible time?

I Ashish Bhardwaj, being a citizen of INDIA request my prime minister and my country's government to contribute a handful amount of money and time in the development of proper washrooms/latrines on highways, atleast at a distance of every 20 km. No doubts this contribution will stand helpful in the fulfillment of our project Clean India, also it will provide a blessed facility too the citizens who travel through various highways daily. I will soon continue with new vision, thank you :).

Thank you sir for plan to address country on AIR, the next step in my view should be to revive Indian Postal Services, they can play wider role in public distribution (including fertilizer in rural areas) and local banking. It would also give them much needed dignity in their job

We should use more technology and less man power in Clean India Mission. We should benchmark the most cleaned countries in the world and learn from them how do they do it. I have seen wonderful machines for cleaning roads and liquid waste, solid wastes. Govt should buy these machines and start using it without any delay. jai Hind

Respected PM , I am greatly enthused by the Swach Bharat ( Clean India ) movement .As a professional who has worked for more than 20 years with a leading brand of sanitaryware products in India , I would strongly suggest that the manufacturers of sanitaryware and bathroom products should be directed and motivated to support this cause by producing low cost sanitary ware to make toilets affordable to common man so that he does n't expect govt. to fulfill this basic need and takes initiative

Respected PM, I am associated with Dr Mapuskar of village Dehu who has developed human excreta based biogas plants & stabilisation tanks for grey water management. I myself have studied and analysed these systems in detail, being a professor of env engg. I am sure his technologies are very appropriate for Indian conditions, Only INDIGENOUS technologies will work for waste water manaagement in India. I am associated with Dr Mapuskar and have started implementing and propagating these technologies
