Water is a vital resource for life, and for the economy. Nowadays, one of the most serious challenges to solve and manage the water scarcity. With the depletion of water resources, the demand for quality water is increasing day by day. Water utilities are under pressure to provide good quality water, but are struggling with their outdated infrastructure at the same time. Furthermore, one of the major concerns of water utilities is the increasing wastage and pollution of water bodies caused due to metering errors, leaks, pipe bursts, and industrial waste. To manage all these issues, water utilities have to come up with smart water management solutions and techniques.

IoT may be used in potable water monitoring tools to monitor the quality of tap water in all government owned education institutes and public places. It should be applied in real-time detection of leakages and wastes of factories in rivers and other natural water bodies. It can also be used in monitoring of water level variations in rivers, dams and reservoirs, for proactive disaster management.

Smart water management is the combination of smart hardware, smart solutions, and smart services integrated together to minimize wastage and optimize the utilization. Intelligent use of information and analytics can be leveraged to deliver improved outcomes across the water management lifecycle.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on how IOT can be used in:

• Demand Forecasting and Allocation of water resources
• Water Quality Testing
• Infrastructure Management
• Improve Preparedness and Response to water management system

Your suggestions on the above topics will help us to make an integrated view and plan of action for Smart Water development by applying IoT and analytics.

Most important theme is ideas on smart greenery.I chose this field because there is no such field. (a) The vast stretches of land available with Defense,Railways,NHAI,Forest dept,R&B should become GREEN with GROUND WATER RECHARGING TREES (not ornamental/flower plants) (b)Greenery creation & maintenance should be a compulsory & accountable CSR for all Industrial houses (c) No further deforestation (d) Afforestation of degraded forests (e) Assign Accountability for states&link grant of funds.

dear sir, one of the critical pillars of economy is agriculture and it cant survive without water. also lot of water is wasted in evaporation in canals. cant we plan an irrigation plan with water transported in big cement pipes with metered connection to every farm under compulsory drip irrigation. if large qty of water for cities can be moved through pipes why not for irrigation?

We are in urgent need to monitor critical forests from where our most of the river gets water by satellite monitoring. Our forest area is depleting by encroachment by tribes for cultivation. We have to develop skill in tribes for new earning source.

Sir, maybe my idea isn't that practical everyone says but if we try it can surely work,we have a lot of water on earth though it's not for drinking but as science is developing a large water purifier can be used to purify sea or ocean waters ,hope u think about this.

In our country there are lots of big dams which can be connected to smaller dams. Like Bargi Dam in Jabalpur can be connected to smaller nearby Thanwar Dam in Mandla District in M.P. This way water can be stored in time of scanty rainfall in all dams by transferring water from excess rainfall or avoiding surplus water from one dam to flow by transferring to partially filled dams.

There is a rule of nature that if you harm it ,then it will harm you the demand for water is increasing day by day leading to its scarcity and to solve this problem one way is that our gov should organise the program on making of water harvesting system and its essential value at national level and promoting it through through visual ads. This is the simplest way to spread the awareness among the people and value of water as because " JAL hi jeewan hai".

1) Make it mandatory that one tree must be planted in front of every house to have water and power connection. If there is no tree then cut both water and power connections until tree is planted. 2) Almost 40% of the water is used for flushing. Fresh water is not required for flushing. Either make it mandatory to have water recycle plants in every apartment or municipality should maintain one water recycle plant in every area and supply recycled water to every house.

Area specific or micro sewage treatment systems will help as most of the water wasted is due to the washing of clothes and showers( which has become a thing now instead of the buckets) and western toilets. If the water gets treated at a micro level, it can be sent back again for uses such as water for washing cars, gardening, toilet connections etc. This will help reduce the load on the city specific sewage treatment plants and thus will also be effective (will also create more jobs).
