Water is a vital resource for life, and for the economy. Nowadays, one of the most serious challenges to solve and manage the water scarcity. With the depletion of water resources, the demand for quality water is increasing day by day. Water utilities are under pressure to provide good quality water, but are struggling with their outdated infrastructure at the same time. Furthermore, one of the major concerns of water utilities is the increasing wastage and pollution of water bodies caused due to metering errors, leaks, pipe bursts, and industrial waste. To manage all these issues, water utilities have to come up with smart water management solutions and techniques.

IoT may be used in potable water monitoring tools to monitor the quality of tap water in all government owned education institutes and public places. It should be applied in real-time detection of leakages and wastes of factories in rivers and other natural water bodies. It can also be used in monitoring of water level variations in rivers, dams and reservoirs, for proactive disaster management.

Smart water management is the combination of smart hardware, smart solutions, and smart services integrated together to minimize wastage and optimize the utilization. Intelligent use of information and analytics can be leveraged to deliver improved outcomes across the water management lifecycle.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on how IOT can be used in:

• Demand Forecasting and Allocation of water resources
• Water Quality Testing
• Infrastructure Management
• Improve Preparedness and Response to water management system

Your suggestions on the above topics will help us to make an integrated view and plan of action for Smart Water development by applying IoT and analytics.

Israel has developed efficient desalination and processing technologies. One company IDE-tech is mentioned below as reference http://www.ide-tech.com/solutions/desalination-2/ We have huge coastal area in which we can setup such plants to obtain drinkable water. Then it needs to be transferred via canals, or even train wagons if needed to desired interior locations.

Work on linkage of rivers in the country is of extreme importance. I believe the work on this should start on a war footing. Nothing has been done on this from last two years or atleast nothing has come in media, because of which people don't know. Govt should identify specific states and districts and govt officials should come forward and take the responsibility of their district and make sire that most of the MNEREA funds go under water conservation infrastructure development.

Sir, 1.citizens should be use good quality pipes, taps & sealants, 2.all overhead tanks should be provided with a water level assessor device so that overflow is prevented, 3.grey water recycling should be encouraged, especially in large apartment blocks, 4.rain water harvesting should be mandatory for all buildings 5.people, especially in cities should take initiatives to increase green cover, which in turn will bring down ambient temperature, 6.the use of drip irrigation should be encouraged.

Few simple steps to save water 1.taps to be closed properly and get it repaired if its not working properly. Its required this is one of the major point we can save water 2.In Bangalore i have seen the vehicle carrying water tanks will be spilling the water on the roads because most of the time the tanks are leaking or they don’t close the lid of the tank when they carry. 3.small video clip can be showed to the school kids regarding water saving. Or the stories can be told to them

The problem is simple and so is the solution.. We need to address it at grass root level. 1) Plant, maintain & sustain more trees, especially drought ridden areas and areas which had good green cover earlier 2) Use cloud seeding initially to stabilize rainfall and green cover growth 3) Heavy subsidiaries and mandatory implementation of rain water harvesting across the length & breath of the country 4) Remove any special water related privileges for government officials.

Why not the mechanism of converting humidity into water from the air, with machinery installations across our entire coastline?
