Water is a vital resource for life, and for the economy. Nowadays, one of the most serious challenges to solve and manage the water scarcity. With the depletion of water resources, the demand for quality water is increasing day by day. Water utilities are under pressure to provide good quality water, but are struggling with their outdated infrastructure at the same time. Furthermore, one of the major concerns of water utilities is the increasing wastage and pollution of water bodies caused due to metering errors, leaks, pipe bursts, and industrial waste. To manage all these issues, water utilities have to come up with smart water management solutions and techniques.

IoT may be used in potable water monitoring tools to monitor the quality of tap water in all government owned education institutes and public places. It should be applied in real-time detection of leakages and wastes of factories in rivers and other natural water bodies. It can also be used in monitoring of water level variations in rivers, dams and reservoirs, for proactive disaster management.

Smart water management is the combination of smart hardware, smart solutions, and smart services integrated together to minimize wastage and optimize the utilization. Intelligent use of information and analytics can be leveraged to deliver improved outcomes across the water management lifecycle.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on how IOT can be used in:

• Demand Forecasting and Allocation of water resources
• Water Quality Testing
• Infrastructure Management
• Improve Preparedness and Response to water management system

Your suggestions on the above topics will help us to make an integrated view and plan of action for Smart Water development by applying IoT and analytics.

Now people think that water is unlimited and free, sio they dont bother about wastage and dont take actions to reduce it consumption. When charges will be levied on its usage, then people will try to reduce it consumption.

Water is wasted big way in residence and industry. Need to enforce a law for industry to recycle the water using latest technology. All Municipalities must ask to put water meter in homes. Need to stop cutting tress and must stop destroying lakes and ponds.

I welcome the sagarmala project a lot. it has huge potential. can we think about using the costal water? can we get the technology from Arabs to desalinate the sea water and use in costal regions? or somehow out into the water table.

What can not be measured can not be managed. Hence metering the water is a must for conservation. Provision to be made in every house for rain water recharging or Harvesting facility which ever is possible. Public awareness about technical developments like use of photocells in public places, a Ball/Butter fly valve in place of Screw/Gate Valve, use of showerheads in Kitchen sink etc will reduce reasonable percentage of water consumption and serve the same purpose.

1. 'Only in this area has the water level actually increased by one-and-a-half metre'.Please read this story in www.thebetterIndia.com 2. Widely publicise through TV, newspapers and other media, various tips for saving water/recycling water 3. Water harvesting to be made compulsory in every home, not in papers.

In places like Assam where flood water and heavy rain is available in every year, multiple artificial reservoir can be made below ground level (not above the ground level) at strategic places for storage of water.this water can be delivered through pipe lines as drinking water or for cultivation purpose. Monetary benefit (or taxes) should be provided to poor state like Assam for its natural resources if the water is to be brought to other state of the country. -------Mrinmoy Dhekial Phukan

the taps in governmental bodies (schools, colleges, hostels, institutes) should be replaced with the press and stop taps so that water can be conserved. citizens usually mishandle the governmental utilities but these pressure taps can't be mishandled. benefits- 1) low maintenance and cost. 2) impossible leakage.

Mere Constructing the Rain water harvesting systems is not enough. They should remain functional and should be cleaned regularly to keep their efficacy. For this purpose an Organisation can be developed which works on AMC i.e. Annual Maintinance Contract. The Municipal Corporation can monitor .
