Water is a vital resource for life, and for the economy. Nowadays, one of the most serious challenges to solve and manage the water scarcity. With the depletion of water resources, the demand for quality water is increasing day by day. Water utilities are under pressure to provide good quality water, but are struggling with their outdated infrastructure at the same time. Furthermore, one of the major concerns of water utilities is the increasing wastage and pollution of water bodies caused due to metering errors, leaks, pipe bursts, and industrial waste. To manage all these issues, water utilities have to come up with smart water management solutions and techniques.

IoT may be used in potable water monitoring tools to monitor the quality of tap water in all government owned education institutes and public places. It should be applied in real-time detection of leakages and wastes of factories in rivers and other natural water bodies. It can also be used in monitoring of water level variations in rivers, dams and reservoirs, for proactive disaster management.

Smart water management is the combination of smart hardware, smart solutions, and smart services integrated together to minimize wastage and optimize the utilization. Intelligent use of information and analytics can be leveraged to deliver improved outcomes across the water management lifecycle.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on how IOT can be used in:

• Demand Forecasting and Allocation of water resources
• Water Quality Testing
• Infrastructure Management
• Improve Preparedness and Response to water management system

Your suggestions on the above topics will help us to make an integrated view and plan of action for Smart Water development by applying IoT and analytics.

Well .. first of all .. thank's to God that India has been blessed with many water resources ... but people have forgotten the significance of these water bodies .. we have taken these water body's for granted and are least interested in taking care of them .. THIS ATTITUDE HAS TO CHANGE !! well first off .. de-salination plants can be used in costal regions .. rain water should be harvested .. awareness should be spread abt water conservation ... THERE IS NO TIME TO WASTE !! LET'S START NOW

We need to educate people on how precious water resource is through advertisements. We can take the example of people from states like Rajasthan and Gujarat where there is water scarcity by nature are using it efficiently. Also Army men on how efficiently they manage limited water per day. Also we are blessed country with enough rain and rivers, need to efficiently use them before they join the sea by creating water storage areas at regular distances which can be utilised locally latter.

In my opinion, we have to look for ideas from best countries: 1. Like Dubai we can have de-salination plants to provide drinking water to coastal areas. 2. 3-4 Ponds or Lake construction be made mandatory near Tier 2/3 cities which can act as source of water 3. Water storage and conservation in metros using efficient taps with sensors, RO systems with water storage box for waste water, water harvesting be made mandatory for all building and residential areas.

1.To improve the quality of tap water, pipes can be made of copper instead of steel or aluminium. As copper is a natural killer of bacterias, a quality improvement can be observed. This idea is in effect in Canada throughout the country. 2.Smart water taps with sensor can be installed at government offices and recommendation can be given to corporate offices and citizens to use the same if possible. 3.Vacuum cleaning should be recommended to government and corporate offices and then to citizen

1) most of the water is wasted in cities because they don't realize the situation in the rural areas..that awareness in urban area must be done. 2)flow should be reduced at the public places. 3)we need to make artificial arrangements by our own to store water.
