Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

1. Monetise track space by allowing cable pipes of private parties along tracks. 2. Monetise all station roofs by allowing private solar power generation, mobile towers, etc.

Long distance trains: 1. Simple parcel delivery service for Point-to-Point pickup and delivery at the station. One can send a parcel overnight by Rajdhani for a low cost for example. 2. Open good waiting rooms and charge for same. 3. Start a railway lottery. 4. More 5 day, 10 day, 20 day passes for unlimited travel in 2nd AC for e.g. 5. Paid lockers in railway stations for passengers 6. Develop land around railway stations as commercial hubs in smaller towns

Pasting ads on long distance trains can be an option. As these trains travel across several states, advertising on them can reach more people.

Here are some potential revenue generating ideas: 1. Suburban trains in Mumbai, Chennai, etc: a. Most commuters shop for vegetables, fruits, etc. at illegal shops outside stations in Mumbai. Why not open a shopping area on the floor above the platforms and lease out the space to vendors, dry cleaners, etc.? This will not only generate rent revenue, it will also reduce the congestion outside the stations. b. Allow mini marts and other shops to open at important stations like CST, Dadar, etc.

#Railways, माननीय रेलमंत्रीजी, रेलवे की रेवन्यु बढाने के लिए रेलवे की जमीन का इस्तमाल किया जा सकता है । अगर रेलवे लाईनो के आसपास बायोडिजल के पेड इत्यादि व्यापारी पेड लगाये तो रेलवे की रेवन्यु मे बढोतरी हो सकती है। इससे रेलवे इस बयोडिजल को बेचकर रेवन्यु बढा सकता है और रेलवे की जमीन का उपयोग भी हो सकेगा ।इससे हम रेलवे इंजन चलायेगे तो डिजल की बचत भी होगी ।

Railway corporation has announce competition on cost saving, this competition should award with the contract to that winner for implementation of provided suggestion

Continuing with the previous comment, I think that the overall revenue would go up because, the railways could levy charges on utilising the services of the lines-man, traffic controllers, signal-man, guards and platform charges besides the indirect revenue collected from the increase in the platform tickets due to increase in the seeing-off people for these trains.

Railway platform top space should be handover to private solar agency to generate the solar energy, due to which Railway corporation get additional revenue

I think that since the tracks have been laid to network all over the country, the railways could allow private railines to operate trains on these tracks by paying rentals to railways. This would be on the lines of private telecom operators, private airlines etc. who are sharing the resources of the government.This would help better connectivity and availability of trains even to the remote locations of the country especially in the rural regions where the traffic density is very low

our railway lines are more then lacks kilometres, its not possible railway corporation to run the railway 24x7 on every route, is it possible to gave line on lease basis when there is no train travelling/ going, through which Railway corporation get the additional revenue without any additional investment
