Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

Single Rooms, Double rooms, Dormetry facility for passengers in all major railway stations. I think there are a lot of vacant old quarters of railway employees. There railway can make hotels especially in cities.

1. Instead of too many Railway websites for different zones, create only one website for Railway. It will help in improving the website ranking and then publishing advertisements on Railway website will earn lot of money like Google earns from advertisements. 2. Many people in local trains still ride on trains without ticket. So Ticket-Checking on local trains should be tightened on every train.

Please install water ATMs in all major railway stations. This will decrease the use of plastic bottle water. For example, Minimum 5rupees.

More First Class A/C bogies should be included . This will attract a lot of investment. In some trains , they don't exist at all. It should be made available in more trains as is preferred by some travelers who want privacy and who cannot use AIR TRAVEL due to health reasons.

one of the simple and quick way to increase the revenue is by hiring the railway coaches for various advertisement by various MNC'S as this will not just provide a mobile advertising site for various brands but also will decrease the maintenance cost incurred by the railways for each and every coach. (Although it is in use but it is presently very limited so this should be encouraged on a larger scale to increase the revenue without any additional expense).

#NonFareRevenue, #IndianRailways,IR has vast lands adjoining all inter/intra city stations. Mostly they are kept for storage of items i.e. sleepers etc and sometimes it gets encroached. I propose to use this space for advertisement but not the usual banners rather make it green, innovative, environment friendly. This would also generate revenue and local employment. I am willing to propose in person, if given an opportunity. Regards, Avinash

ALSO BIO Toilets need to be introduced in all trains. I know that government has taken steps in that direction by having these in some trains but it should be made a requirement in all trains. This will attract revenue from a lot of people who hesitate to book RAIL tickets primarily due to sanitation concerns.
