Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

Every Express, Superfast, Long Distance and other than passenger train should have 1 0r 2 coaches of chair car. If you have exchange 1 sleeper coach with chair car, you can get more than double passengers. The problem of waiting List, RAC is also decrease. In night journey atleast passengers have a seat to sit or sleep. If someone not get any ticket in train, he has to go for bus and get sitting seat. Now it is same for railways, so there is revenue increase for railway.

If any department wants to improve its revenue or progress, then, it must have best employees. In railway, we see that the employees are recruited zonewise (RRBs). Some RRBs cut off is much higher, while some RRBs cut off is much lower. So, some RRBs get most skillful employees, while some get least skillful employees. It should be checked so that railway could get the most skilled workers. And we know that a skillful worker works effectively. It can be started by recruiting 18252 NTPC vacancies

Make the platforms of the railway stations clean and attractive. We can rent the space to good businesses to create a mini-shopping mall with good foodcourts. A percentage of the sales in the shops and the rent can generate income for railways. In bigger stations like junctions we can build bigger shopping malls like those attached to the metrorail stations in Singapore. This can also generate revenue. The waiting rooms can be made clean and decent and charge a small fee.

In lieu of free insurance, take undertaking from customers to send Advt. Those who book tickets. Further have database of customers mobile no to receive Advt. On their no. To give certain points and benefits on train ticket booking to customers. For this railways can charge from Advt companies. Customers must have option to not receive Advt and leave anytime. Make special merchandise items of Indian railways like lok Sabha and rajya Sabha merchandise items. Keychains, bags and so many things.

6) We should provide train tickets on the basis of addhar cards ID. only give subsidy for only low income travelers in sleeper class. 7) There should be auto ticketing machine installed in General and sleeper class for taking tickets and fare fixed like 5, 10, 15, 20 etc. 8) Non approved vender should be not allowed in train. only dressed and approved vender can sell product in train which have charged. 9) Give outside space outside station to rent with maintaining cleaning.

Make app or option in ticket for porter service at the car doorstep after reaching and leaving station. Charges defined services defined. Benefit for everybody. Outside station building walls be given for hoardings. Self reliance in electricity generation by compulsory solar empanellment either making it in contract of Advt or own railway funds. After 3 to 5 years ownership transferred to railway if done by Advt. Contractors.

railways consume lot of diesel. suggest electrify or at least energise where already lines are installed. Produce power at any one point with diesel and supply to these lines. benefits: 1. no diesel transport. 2. diesel burning pollution control at one or a few places only. wastage will be less. Trains will need less power due to not carrying diesel and diesel engine. There are many routes where already electric lines have been laid. only power needs to be supplied.

1) If we use OLEDs for advertisement in each compartment. that will be a better option for increasing non-fare revenue for Indian Railways. 2) In low cast, we should provide poster advertisement space in the compartment 3) There should be a compartment for reserved seating chair for all e-tickets WL 4)There are no advertisement found out site train walls in all train. I thinks railway offers are not serious for this. It needs to take it seriously 5) Provide WIFI in train with watching advertise
